TH 400 Deep Pan + Filter Questions

I got a new GM deep pan (service replacement) for the TH-400. This is really a stout, heavy-duty pan and is a nice piece. But it doesn't come with the extended pickup tube or any additional filter-lowering hardware. Can I use the stock pickup tube and filter mount, and fill the tranny to the stock level on the dipstick? I know it's probably better to move the filter down, but this isn't really for racing anyway; it's the only "new" GM TH400 pan still made.
BTW, for my own knowledge, does anybody have a picture of the proper hardware for lowering the filter from the valve body when using the longer pickup tube? I would think there's supposed to be a spacer to keep the filter solidly mounted; but I'm not sure how long it would be.
    Thanks in advance....

    John,

If you can wait, I'll check tonight and see if I have that piece. Seems to me that I do. If I have the tube, then should have the spacer also. I'll check and see, then post in the morning. I could send it your way on Mon.

I had the same situation with a turbo 350. I picked up a used B&M deep pan and ran it for several years. I t always seemed to smell burned shortly after running tha car. This is a 75 drag/25 street car. I drained the fluid and got to looking at it . I checked out several parts catologues from the PRI show that I had picked up. Some of the pans come with a extension and some didn't.
The spacer was just a square chunk of aluminum with holes matching the filter gasket. I ended up making my own spacer. I wanted it to be 1 1/2 inches deeper into the pan, but I only had 3/4 inch stock at the shop when I made it.
This gets the filter down deeper into the fluid.
    Sorry no pictures.

Years back I had an article from Car Craft or Hot Rod talking about this pan. It listed all of the part numbers for it to work. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find this article now that I could use it.

Thanks, guys. I'll wait to see what you have, Shayne. Mostly, though, I'm just curious to see if anybody runs a deep pan with everything else the same. I can't see how it would hurt as long as the level was the same, unless it sloshes too much fluid upward with g-forces. But I would doubt that....

    John,

Package is on the way, hopefully you'll see it Wed. or Thur. Not sure as I've never sent anything down your way. No worries on shipping, it was just a few stamps. Good luck.

You're a gentleman and a scholar, Shayne. I guess not too many Buick parts end up "Way down yonder in New Orleeeenz"!
    Thanks again,
    John
