I am replacing the ST300 with a TH350, correct year, in my 69 skylark. I cant see how the tranny kickdown cable is supposed to connect to the accellerator pedal assy. Is there a different pedal for the 350 vs the 300? Also I dont see a reverse switch connection on the 350 as on the 300. does this reverse connection take place in the steering column instead? Thanks for your help.
kick down detent cable I have alot of 350TH trannies and they all connect with a cable from the passenger side of the tranny to the carb linkage under the throttle cable. I do not know a thing about the 300STtrannies and the reverse switch is on the steering column for column selector and on the shifter if it is a floor selector on the 350TH That is as much help as I can do I hope some one else chimes in on this for you about the 300ST. I thought a 300 had an electric kick down like a 400. I didn't think they had a cable detent like a 350. Anyone else know for sure?
I believe that is correct, the 300 used an electric kickdown. Tom, it shouldn't be a problem to hook it up to your gas pedal. you may have to make a bracket to attach to your existing pedal. You want the cable to pull full travel when you are at wide open throttle. The 350 had a rod at the end of the cable, that went through a hole in the gas pedal arm. There was a clip that slid on the rod that was used to adjust it.
Thanks for your help guys. Larry, I have the kickdown cable and my manual shows it connects to the pedal lever. My cable has the very clip you show in your photo. But my pedal assy has only one spot to connect a cable and that is taken already by the throttle cable. I dont see where another one would connect. Is there supposed to be another bracket to connect the second cable? does the second cable connect somehow to the switch assy on the pedal? I havent taken it out to look on the back of the switch to see if it might connect there?? Thanks.
I'm sure the pedals are a little different. It connects right below where the throttle cable connects to the pedal lever. All it is is a hole, through which that rod passes through. If you can fab up a small metal bracket with a hole in it, it would probably work. Just a matter of adjusting it. Take a look at this picture, it may give you some ideas.
ST300 to TH350 tranny swap I just completed this same tranny swap last week in my '68 Buick. I am now awaiting delivery from another board member for a gas pedal assembly from a '69-'72 A-body car. The TH350 cable detent is hooked up to this pedal assembly which has two holes in the bracket assembly. One for the throttle cable, and the other for the "kickdown" cable. You can find the pedal that you need on the '69/'72 Buicks. Hope this info helps. ......John
Thanks for everyones help. I will either make a bracket or get another pedal assy. I think Paul in Fort Smith has one.
Ancient thread but I need that guide as well. Everytime I want some nice highway passing power it always happens to be at a time when the kickdown cable has popped out of place
Just curious- why aren't you guys using the standard universal kit that most speed shops sell with the cable and bracket included that sends the cable straight to the carb linkage? It works great in my '64 with the TH350. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-376900/?rtype=10 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LOK-KD-2350U/ Does it have something to do with the Rochester carb, or are you guys trying to keep things all original?
Do the Buick quadrajets come with a provision on the linkage for the kickdown? I have been thinking about messing with that but I've just been too busy lately
