What do I need to know to swap my TH350 in my 71 Skylark to a TH400? T.V. cable..... connections???? What. Oh I have a 350. Jay
You wont use the throttle kickdown cable,it is replaced by an electric kickdown. May I ask why you want to do this swap? I did and I regret it. The TH350 can be built to take alot of power and I think its a more efficient transmission. I think there are bigblock cars turning 11's with them.
Well, I have a 350/350 in my 71 now, but I am slowly building a 455. I picked up a TH400 at a swap meet Sunday for $50. I thought I need the 400 for the swap. Where do I get the electrical connection from for a 400?
Alot of the 350 cars are prewired in the gas pedal area. As far as the switch goes, last item on this page. http://mrbuick.com/misc.htm The wiring is nothing special. One side of the gas pedal switch gets 12 volts, the other side goes to the vertical tang on the trans, that's it.
Thats funny I picked up another TH400 this weekend at a swap meet as well. I didnt really want it but the guy wouldnt let me leave without it($30). You want a short shaft 400 for your car. I did this same swap in my 71 350/350 lark. The switch for the kickdown is available from GM still. It mounts on the gas pedal. You will need a bracket for mounting it, it is reproduced by someone. You can search the swap on the forum. Thats where I found all of the info I needed. I still would consider using the TH350 behind the 455. How much HP are you planning?
i have a th350 behind my 430, with positive downshifts from the detent cable my 430 runs up like a small block and it will downshift almost anytime you want/need as the 400 is abit lame in the downshaft department with a 288-94 h in my 430 its fun to drive but hard to keep the rears from burning down the street.definatly worth a try before you go 400 just so you know the difference
