I could probably find the thread. I was able to research John's posts back to July of 2016, https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?search/124712381/ https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?search/124712538/ Nothing is jumping out at me though. Who actually posted the For Sale thread? The more information you can provide, the better the chance.
Maybe it wasn’t posted as a for sale post? It’s possible it was posted as a thread by Staged70. I’ve searched in the past but cannot find it. If I remember correctly, the post was titled something like “well, it’s time” The body of the thread mentioned Terry’s SunCoupe.
I seem to remember the car was for sale on another site, maybe Craigslist, and the lead was posted here. Eventually a member recognized the car as John's. I could be wrong though.
I think you're right Joe. If it was posted here, I could find it by researching posts and threads by both Brian and John.
See screenshots from a conversation I had with a member, the conversation has a link to what I believe to be the for sale thread. The link errors out when clicked.
I think there was a board crash/upgrade/purge/ton of spammers cycle some years ago and lots of links became non-functional.
There is a way to fix those links, but I never quite got the hang of it. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...fix-all-the-broken-links-on-the-board.357075/ https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...ads-where-have-they-gone.333372/#post-2804614
Found this with Google, haven't gone through it yet. https://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/stage-1-suncoupe-resto-part-1.120181/ There may be some clues in the 10 pages, we may need to go back to when John first bought the car for his wife Terry.
I didn't see anything yet. I was able to research all the way back 20 years to Johns posts and threads. Very time consuming to go through everything, but if he posted anything about the engine in your car, it is here somewhere, it isn't lost.
Parts have been ordered. I’m going to replace all rockers and both shafts as they are showing some wear. I found most of the broken rocker pieces. Going to pull the intake and have a good look inside. A fresh coat of paint won’t hurt either. Any recommendations for paint that won’t burn off? I’m still using the factory choke and quadrajet.
This is as good as it gets IMHO, https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-DE1653-Ceramic-Engine-Paint/dp/B002988HSI?th=1 Nothing will last on the exhaust crossover portions of cast iron heads/intake. Aluminum fares much better.
I’ll search for a thread on blocking off the exhaust crossover. Maybe the choke will work good enough.
Carrying on this conversation in this thread instead of my plugging exhaust crossover ports thread. I’ll be replacing the water pump while I’m at it. One of the long water pump bolts broke so the timing cover needs to come off . I’m not going to try to drill it out. The cover is pitted behind the water pump so I’ll probably replace it. This has gone deeper than I wanted to go. Once removed, is the harmonic balancer reusable? This engine has been rebuilt by the PO so hoping timing chain and gears are good. Fingers crossed that I don’t need to go there as it would be a first for me. Hope the oil pan gasket holds so I can stop removing pieces..probably just jinxed myself.
Harmonic balancer should come off easily. It isn't an interference fit like some engines. That 200 lb/ft torque is what holds it on. If you pull the front cover off, you will likely find a chain with some slop in it. I've rarely seen one make it very long before some play develops. That's why a lot of engines went to belts but that's a whole other can of worms. Don't worry unless it is REALLY sloppy. Be sure to use thread sealer/anti-seize on the new bolts that go into the block. Several of them are through bolts that hit water passages.
