The Changing Face of Abortion in America

Discussion in 'Help From Above' started by GSXMEN, Jan 17, 2003.

  1. GSXMEN

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

Earlier this month, the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL)
changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice America.

That new label is a lie.

Thirty years after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion, it is
increasingly evident that Americans are embracing the pro-life cause. In
fact, a significant new poll has revealed that nearly 70 percent of
Americans say they favor "restoring legal protection for unborn children."

The fact is, our nation is becoming Pro-Life America!

A Wirthlin Worldwide poll taken last month asked about 1,000 adults if,
considering medical advances that exhaustively reveal the unborn child's
body and facial features, "are you in favor of restoring legal protection
    for unborn children?"

An astounding 68 percent of the randomly-surveyed respondents answered
that they were in favor of legal protection; 44 percent were in strong
agreement of such action. Furthermore, 66 percent said they believe that
nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court should "uphold laws that restore legal
    protection to unborn children."

Nevertheless, the sightless leadership at NARAL Pro-Choice America said
this week, "A majority of Americans believe that women should have the
right to choose (abortion) and that decision should be between a woman and
    her doctor."

    Typical.

The abortion-rights community lives in a vacuum. They habitually cover up
the fact that many scientific studies have discovered a link between
breast cancer and abortion; they disregard the fact that women undergoing
abortions frequently suffer mental anguish; and they ignore the most
important fact that abortion stops a beating heart.

So there's no reason for obstinate abortion activists to accept the
findings of this poll. But the numbers cannot be overlooked. The tone on
    abortion is changing in America.

I believe a large part of this intensifying grass-roots support for
protecting the lives of the unborn lies largely in the fact that America
elected a pro-life president in George W. Bush. Mr. Bush issued his second
sanctity of human life proclamation this week, signifying his ongoing
support of life. The proclamation proposes that Americans "reaffirm our
commitment to respecting the life and dignity of every human being."

It is a simple, yet profound, evocation.

Mr. Bush added that his administration continues to support "compassionate
alternatives to abortion," such as group homes for unwed pregnant women,
    abstinence education and adoption.

Here in Lynchburg, Va., where my ministry is headquartered, we have
operated the Liberty Godparent Home - a beautiful dwelling where young
girls may live after they discover they are pregnant - for 21 years. We
provide their room and board, education, health care - all at no charge to
them. When they leave us, they either carry their newborn child with them
or they have chosen a childless Christian couple to raise their baby. It
is a ministry of compassion that has touched the lives of hundreds of
    families.

Through our Godparent Home, we have provided the means for young girls to
choose an alternative to abortion. (Girls interested in information on our
Godparent Home may call toll free: 1-800-54-CHILD. Christian couples
interested in information on our Family Life Services Adoption Agency may
visit our website (www.godparent.org) or E-mail us:
    familylifeservices@juno.com )

I firmly agree with President Bush, who said, "Every child is a priority
and a blessing, and I believe that all should be welcomed in life and
protected by law. Through ethical policies and the compassion of
Americans, we will continue to build a culture that respects life."

The National Right to Life maintains a simple poem, titled "I Am An
American," on its website (http://www.nrlc.org). It beautifully captures
the spirit of the pro-life community that should be our never-ending
    focus:

    I AM AN AMERICAN

I am endowed by my Creator

with the unalienable right to life.

Just like you, and every other American.

    You know who I am.

Now that you can see my face,

    will you use your voice?

    Please tell America,

    I am an American, too.

I think I heard that 7 million abortions have taken place since rowe vs wade 7 MILLION!! Think of all the tax payers, scientists, Doctors, etc that have been killed!! It simply amazes me the abortionists want to be called surgeons now too...

Its amazing also how the liberalists have changed the wording so it wont sound so bad now I will find a commentary I read recently and post it here. If everyone was invormed about the real problems caused by these baby killers I think there will be less of them!!! :af:

  4. GSXMEN

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

It's worse than that Mike!!:af: There's something like 3,100 or so per day!!! That averages out to 1.13 Million per year and about 34 Million since 1973.:(

There's a place down south on the east coast that has that many crosses(3100) in the ground to symbolize what 1 days worth of abortions REALLY looks like!

I wonder, if a girl/women that was considering an abortion, actually watched an abortion performed - would they still go ahead with it?? Pretty gruesome thought...:(

Think of all the rapists, murderers, drug dealers ,and religious wacko's that have also been terminated.
imagine if these people had lived...... oh the horror, 7 million potential jack the rippers.
lets go kill us a bunch of abortion doctors in the name of our vengeful angy hateful god.

    vengeful god????

What book have you been reading Ken??? my" GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten SON, so that who so ever believes on him shall not perish"Doesn't sound like a angry vengeful god to me! i'm sure there are people on this site appreciative that they weren't aborted(do you think?)are you one?? MOZ :puzzled:

  7. GSXMEN

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

Gary hit the nail on the head! Could YOU(meaning anyone) send your only child to die in place of even the BEST person in the world...let alone the Hitler's, Hussein's, etc. of this world?? Doesn't sound like a hateful God to me!

We'll never know what kind of people all those aborted children would have grown up to have been! They weren't given a chance. Thankfully, they're all in Heaven now!! That's the only positive out of the whole situation.

Not sure why anyone would 'condemn' a group as a whole, based on the unwelcome actions of a few lunatics that decided to act on their own as judge, jury, and executioner! I don't know ANYONE that could condone that type of behavior! No excuse for it!!

    I found a partial comment I found

    By Cal Thomas

    Tribune Media Services

It is the 30th anniversary month of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision, which, along with subsequent rulings, allows abortion on demand at any time and for any reason. Having already decided, with the support of academics, clergy and journalists, that certain categories and stages of life are not entitled to the protection of law, why are so many appalled, outraged and surprised when cloning arrives at the door?

Cloning is the unnatural fruit- there will be many more- produced when the root of the tree of life has been pulled out of its nurturing soil and replanted into a soil of situational ethics that serve the temporal interests and feelings of humanity. What was it a few people said in 1973 about a slippery slope? We have slid a long way since then, and cloning is but a way station where the rest of humanity indulges itself in a slight gasp before resuming the downward spiral.

Whether or not "doctor" and cultist Brigitte Boisselier and her Clonaid operation have, in fact, cloned a girl named "Eve," the horror expressed in some quarters is a little late.

Ross Clark, a father of two, wrote a column in the London Times this week, asking why it's fine to "kill babies" in an abortion, but not to create them through cloning, "Our fear of clinicians in white coats is much greater when they are creating human life than when they are destroying it," he noted. Clark thinks the population growth fanatics don't mind when science kills, but they oppose anything that would add to our numbers. "We are more inclined to support science when it stops births than when it enables them," he said.

This is why pro-lifers favor returning to a uniform life ethic, covering the unborn, the handicapped, the elderly, racial and religious minorities, in short, all human life. Once one category of humanity is declared unfit to live- regardless of the reason- all others become at risk to the whims of society at a given moment. We still recoil at what Hitler did to the Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and the sick, but he was simply ahead of his time. Today, he might be invited to speak at Princeton about his unique form of eugenics. Why Princeton? It is the home of Dr. Peter Singer, the Australian philosopher who believes human life is not sacred and can and should be manipulated for whatever end the "healthy" and "fit" determine would serve their current interests. In fact, Hitler might be a candidate for cloning among those who believe his "work" should continue.

Cloning might produce large armies, such as those bred for war by the evil Saruman in "The Lord of the Rings." Clone wars might remove any sense of morality or immorality about war since those who are killing, or being killed, would be the fruits of soulless technology and of no greater value (but less expense) than an airplane or tank.

Some members of Congress, including many who have lost any moral standing on this issue because of their support of abortion through all nine months and even during delivery (known as "partial birth abortion"), now express shock and outrage over the latest cloning news. They are too late to be taken seriously. Having allowed the process to begin and failed to do anything to stop it, they may pass a law in hopes of slowing down the inevitable, but they will not succeed.

Western culture has told God that we don't need or want Him. It has told history that we will neither learn from it nor care. It worships at the shrine of The Self, and in so doing it has produced a type of "Rosemary's baby" that will be impossible to control absent a revival of the things that once mattered most about life.

After 40 million (and counting) aborted babies in the United States, who, or what, is going to stop cloning? And on what grounds?

And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron 2 Samuel, Chapter4

At midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.--12:29 Genesis

The LORD is a man of war.--15:3 Genesis

And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.--22:24

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.--11:33 numbers

And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land.--24:10 Jeremiah

could we feed and cloth them? what about thier offspring?
are you going to give them rooms in your house? are you going to feed them.

The cloning thing is most likley a hoax,

Ken I have a small comment here.......... If we as beleivers dont believe GOD will take care of that, your faith is weak and has no substance. I have a hard time occasionally letting GOD rule over me but when I set down and think about it I realize that I am not in control even if I want to be Im still not going to be...

First why worry about where they will live or eat
    Matt 6
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[1] ?

All the abortionists and company they keep really dont have a clue as to what they do as it is noted here

    2 Thessalonians 2

10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

I am convinced we are closing the door near the end times. I am not a dooms dayer but I do think we are nearing the time when like the mark of the beast and the part where they call evil good and good evil is all coming to pass faster each day.

I have some more scripture to back up my point
    John 3
15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.[5]
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[6] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[7] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God

    Its all realivant

tlivingd BIG BLOCK, THE ANTI PRIUS

to jump in or not to.... that is the question

after reading this I am unsure If i want to open this can of worms open more.

I feel that I take an intresting stand on this issue.

Mine is Pro-woman. She is the one having to make this decision options include

have the baby and keep it,
have the baby and put it up for adoption cold (never to see the child again)
have the baby put up for adoption but with visitation.
    abortion (early term)
    abortion (late term)

If put up with the accdental unplanned child situation I would help her decide on what to do but it would not be my final choice.

Many people are not able to take care of a child because they have other things going on thruout there life. (maybe young and school, getting situated in the world [away from rents])

this is where the options come into play.

from word of mouth a friend of mine gave her child up for adoption cold.
with this choice she knows that she may never see her child again and only have the single hospital photo of him. it will be her sons decision to find his real mother.
She had the child from unprotected sex freshman year of college. she droped out of school to cary the baby to term and waited another year before returning to college. she came back when emotionally ready. and also since the guy was not at all any type of father figure (bailed on her)

now she has to live the rest of her life knowing that there is another part of her out there somewhere. or that he may have had some sort of tragity that happened to him. will never be able to see him walk or have the childs first christmas. but this is something she knew when deciding on adoption.

the visitation rights adoption I am not sure I agree with since it gets complicated espically for the child when he/she is around 10-16 wondering why real mom sees me sometimes but wont raise me.

    then early abortion comes in.
THis also raises simmilar questions what can become of this child in the future.. and the choices are will he be the next pres. or will he be the next charles manson. nobody can tell. although if this question also brings up the psychology nature nurture aspect and if abortion is an option then maybe the child will not be brought up the way it should (jerry springer episode, poor neighborhood and social surroundings, parents maturity to actually raise a child, could also end up like in the movie "Trainspotting" where there so high on herion that they forget about the child for i think 5 days and it dies. (seriously messed up movie) I sure as hell hope abortion would have been a viable option there.
although this is an extreme situation but still it happens.

Late term abortions are a complete no no though.

but again if it were to happen to me I would want to be asked about it but the final decision would be hers. I would not be one of those fathers who say "You are keeping the baby" it takes two to raise a child. doing it with one makes it unfair for both the child and the parent.

    Nate

sorry for the length. and hopefully not opening a total can of worms.

One way to look at it also is that if they adopt away the child the parent I mean exparent will be allowed the chance to see the child again (or not) in several years or many years BUT with an abortion there is NO chance they child will be seen again ever.....

The choice of life or death is not ours as humans to make. God made us to have free choice but we also will have conciquences for our actions. I read somewhere that all women that were polled about there abortion they had years before were regretfull of the choice they made and became seriously depressed, attempted suicide, became drug users or alcoholics within that next year after the abortion. And the same survey of women who opted to adopt ended up happier with their decision and were not as prone to the above stuff.

I can see how that would make sense to some, i do not agree however.
Has god taken care of that currently and historically?
I don't think god is doing a very good job, how many humans die per year due to lack of food, water and shelter?

the world will not end. the earth has been here for millions of years, it will spin on for millions more with or without us. that is untill the sun turns into a red giant and swallows the planet.

And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron 2 Samuel, Chapter4 [/quote]

Here is the whole chapter, so you can see what the REAL context of that passage is.

    Ish-Bosheth Murdered

1 When Ish-Bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner had died in Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel became alarmed. 2 Now Saul's son had two men who were leaders of raiding bands. One was named Baanah and the other Recab; they were sons of Rimmon the Beerothite from the tribe of Benjamin-Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin, 3 because the people of Beeroth fled to Gittaim and have lived there as aliens to this day.
4 (Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.)
5 Now Recab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, set out for the house of Ish-Bosheth, and they arrived there in the heat of the day while he was taking his noonday rest. 6 They went into the inner part of the house as if to get some wheat, and they stabbed him in the stomach. Then Recab and his brother Baanah slipped away.
7 They had gone into the house while he was lying on the bed in his bedroom. After they stabbed and killed him, they cut off his head. Taking it with them, they traveled all night by way of the Arabah. 8 They brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to take your life. This day the LORD has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring."
9 David answered Recab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of all trouble, 10 when a man told me, 'Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news! 11 How much more-when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed-should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!"
12 So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them. They cut off their hands and feet and hung the bodies by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth and buried it in Abner's tomb at Hebron.

    Should be Exodus 12:29!!

This passage talks about when God first brought about the Passover. Here is the complete chapter, should anyone wish to see it in context.
Should be Exodus 15:3!! Below is the correct passage in context.

    Exodus 15
2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

This should be Exodus 22:24. All laws have consequences, some more severe than others. That particular verse, and more importantly, the surrounding passageway, warns against harming women or children - the above is the consequence!

Here is the whole chapter so the correct context can be seen.
This passageway deals with the chronic complaining and disobedience by the people of Isreal, while they were wandering around in the desert, after Moses had helped to lead them out of Egypt! The Lord is a Just God...it is not wise to disobey or ridicule Him.

Here is the whole chapter to see what I'm talking about. Once again, in proper context.

This passage is a Parable of the two baskets of figs - one good, one bad. That verse describes what happens to the 'bad figs'.

Here is the whole chapter, to once again, see it in the proper context.

    Romans 12
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

  17. chryco63

    chryco63 14's or bust!

Jesus did not come to bring peace (long, but pls. read!)

    Ken,

As you have said earlier, we do make our own choices. God does not force His way into our lives and make us do what He wants. We'd be robots if He did. Considering that, God has given us the choice to follow him or not. Following Jesus is following God. And Jesus led the perfect life, and while a lot of us here choose to follow Jesus, we are still not following to the best of our abilities. Although it may sound like I'm blowing my own horn, I want to tell the personal example of how God is moving in my life!:

I recently read a book which defined the conditions in the Third World, and how many die every second without 1) not knowing Christ and 2) being fully nourished, sheltered and clothed. This author gave everything he had (including trading in his brand new late model car to buy a $125 beater Nova) so that he could contribute, in a Christ-like manner, to those in the Third World. He has since helped thousands, telling of Christ, and then allowing them to let Christ work in their lives to provide for them!

I was KICKED IN THE HEAD by this book. Before, I thought "Of course I'm following Christ. And look! He's blessed me with my own jazz band, hot rod Mopar and lots of clothing. Thanks Lord!"

WRONG! I was not following Christ to a full extent! Did Christ have a nice home, a nice horse and wagon (or multiple wagons), and new garments to wear everyday? No, He had nothing material to speak of!

So what I'm saying, Ken, is that as much as I love playing drums in my jazz band, as much as I love scaring Honda kids in my Mopar, I MUST give them up to pursue the well-being of others that do not have what I have, that do not have Christ like I do now! THAT is how God works to help others who are less fortunate than us, through Christians who are fully self-sacrificial. And if we all Christians could be even just a LITTLE bit selfLESS, I'm sure we could all see the power of Christ working in the Third World.

As hard as it is to swallow, fellow Buick friends, we must realize that people like Ken do not see God working to help the Third World because we are not being fully Christ-like to help them! It's tough to give up our Buicks and other what-nots. Yes, there is nothing like the torque from an accelrating BBB, the look of Honda kids when you beat them. But, CHRIST IS SO MUCH MORE FUN!! I'm telling you this from experience! I'm positive all of you can say similar.

Of course, all of you can say "that's all well and good, Glen. But what are you doing about it?" Well, I've already given a price to a guy in maintenance who has been looking over my Mopar for quite some time. Quitting my band is harder, but please read Phil. 4:13... "I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

My goal is to Glorify God. I want to show others that, through me, God will help everyone if we just let Him!!

Ken, I hope this helps. It is hard to see God's work when his workers, Christians, including me, get in His way and see to our needs rather than others. Keep reading the Bible. Just let me say that Christ did not come to bring peace. Read Matthew 10:34-36. Jesus' example is so full of pure love, that others who are so selfish and greedy cannot grasp the concept of self-sacrifice. EXAMPLE: The Israelis and Palestinians are not willing to sacrifice what they want, so it results in war. EXAMPLE: Someone finds Christ, but his family cannot embrace self-sacrifice as he does. It resuslts in a family "war." MY POINT: We will not see world peace until we all embrace Christ, because as long as we WANT "stuff," we will "fight" to get it.

    Founding Fathers

Just wanted to drop in and say..

Do we all realize that this country was NOT founded on Christian principles?

Take a look at what John Adams, Ben Franklin and even Abe Lincoln have been quoted as saying.
Yes I know that Abe was not a founding father, but how about this quote?

"The Bible is not my book and Christianity is not my religion. I would never give ascent to such a long and complicated dogma".

If Americans are walking away from abortion then the problem is fixing itself, no?

I grew up a Catholic. Thank whatever God there is that I am now "free" from the mental fog and fairy tales that = Organized Religion!

Sorry, but I firmly believe that Jesse Venture was right.

    Just my $.02

    Sbbuick (small block buick?)

Thanks for dropping in and addressing your views! I will try to address the issues you have presented in your reply.

Christianity couldn't be more simple. Sure, it's contained in quite a large book, but Christianity is honestly quite simple. I would argue that it is not long and complicated. All that God asks of us is to follow and obey Jesus commandments.

Now, I will be the first to admit, that following Jesus is simple, but NOT EASY to do! A true, pure, Christian life means a life of total self-sacrifice, based on love. Being a college student, I find it very hard to be totally self-sacrificial when I am tempted by cars, girls, music and the like. It's natural for me to want to be accepted, popular. And therefore, it is a battle for me to leave those feelings and conform to the Good Teaching of Jesus Christ.

But this is where it becomes simple. One of my favorite verses is Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Him who strenghthens me." I can get through my college career with the strongest strength known to man if I stick it out with Jesus.

Still sound complicated? If it does to anyone, please let me know, I will send you a personal e-mail.

I will now officially walk the plank for Christ: Catholosism is not necessarily a mental fog, but it is complicated, confusing and in error. Catholosism allows you to worship the virgin Mary, Jesus, and as it would seem, the Pope. To worship Mary and the Pope is directly going against one of Jesus' commandments. Matt. 19:26 comes to mind. What did Mary do and what has the Pope done that could compare to Jesus? Nothing.

Is the Pope a bad person? Certainly not! He is a great example of a person who seeks to do right! But do not worship him! The Popemobile, the Pope's air transport, the gathering of millions in Toronto to SEE HIM, not worship Christ, is what I see as worshiping the Pope. If he were truly following Christ, he would deny all the security he's provided, because being aimed at for the cause of Christ is a blessing! Says who? Says Jesus! Matt. 5:11 (I AM NOT SAYING TO GO OUT AND *GET* KILLED FOR CHRIST!) Why should Third World missionaries live in fear of their lives while preaching in Buddisht and Muslim places (which condemn Christianity) when they are practically doing the same thing as the Pope?

Following The Teachings of Christ, and Christ alone, is not a mental fog! I can honestly say that I can see clearly! Man-organized religions will fail, just read Matt. 19:26. Churches are to be run by one person only... Christ. (1 Cor. 12:14, 27.) And fairy tales?... I think if God can create something like the human body (not as easy as building a 9 sec. BBB race car!), then stories like Noah's Ark, Samson, Daniel in the Lion's Den, and The Three who survived in a Furnace are not so unbelievable.

As for America walking away from abortion, I would have to disagree as well. The so-called "Army of God" that protested in Buffalo a week or so ago actually commends the murder of Dr. Slepian, the abortion doctor. They might as well be called the Army of Satan, cause I can't remember the last time God commended murder. James Kopp sent Mr. Slepian to Hell, and it seems as if he did it in the name of God. The only solution to solve the whole abortion issue is to embrace Christ. It's as simple as that.

Sorry for the length, again. :Dou: God has so much to say through me. Please pray that I can serve him at school, where I find it hardest. It is easy for me to sit here and type with no distractions. It is so much, much harder at school. I would appreciate any prayers! Thanks!
