OK so I bought a 71 model 4bbl quadrajet today and I wanted to know what is the other vacuum canister on the carb? I know the first one is the choke pull off and this is right behind it, it has a vacuum hose going to the backside of the carb? and what purpose does this part serve? This qjet is going to a 68 350engine that has the divorced style choke, will this carb work with this?
Secondary choke pull-off. I highly recommend Cliff Ruggle's book on Q-jets: http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Modif...2024609?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193096911&sr=8-1 Glossy paper and ALL color photos. Wonderful information. Unfortunately, it's printed in China, so buy it cheap and expect to replace it in a few years when the binding comes apart.
See the problem is that I live in europe and most people will not work without a core and for me shipping a core there costs a s**tload of money. TO MOLEARY;how does the choke work on that thing? dont see a rod going anywhere..?
There is presently no choke hooked up. To have a choke there would be a thermostatic coil mounted on the intake manifold pad right at the botom of the picture, with a rod going op to the part marked "ALT STD"
It drives like the wind and still looks like the day I reluctantly mounted it, no leaks when done right so :bla: <-- Thanks dave.
Great observation. That lacking choke linkage has nothing to do with the flawlesss resoration of that carb,. In one of my many previous rants about aftermarket BUICK parts and the disregard applied for application thereof, the folks at Edelbrock that cast the Performer 455 intake to still be compatible with ram air hood and GS Air Cleaner set up, felt it was important that you can't incorporate a factory choke stove / pulloff set up in the application a a bastardized CHEVY set up would be required. I prefer to sit in the car and warm it up than jerk a CHEVY part in it.:beers2:
