Since I was a kid, I've always wanted a 70 GS, and my recent barn find is the next closest thing. This car was found at a farm field in the central valley here in good ol sunny California, sitting for about 20 years. It was then towed up to the Bay Area where it sat for another 4 years till I took possession of it. Not knowing if it ran, or if anything else worked on the car, I bought it and got it running 6 months later. Though it looks rough, it's complete and fully original with minimal rust. Yes, it has the normal rust spots from having a vinyl top, and was in a minor accident (clean title still, just need some fenders), but is a very sold car beyond that. And, it has some cool options like AC, sport steering wheel (in perfect shape), and 8 track player. Maybe it's because I'm a millennial, but I want to keep this car ratty and add a touch of young style too it. I do appreciate the super clean restorations, but it's just not my thing anymore. When I go to a car show now, the thing that catches my eye is the ratty build among the sea of pristine restorations. And yes I'll be bringing this car to the "Stance" shows full of Vapers and slammed Subarus, but I want to inspire the next generation of car guys to appreciate and love classic cars. I don't want to see this culture die with the boomers.
Good buy and great year. This Buick stuff won't die. We carry the touch to the next generation as the generation before us had done.
I hope it can be passed down. When I encounter the next generation, all they care about are newer F-Bodies and WRX's. Most that I talk to don't even realize Buick made cool cars at one point.
They are much more fun when they are ugly. I regret painting my skylark. Extremely expensive and it sucked a lot of the fun out of the car.
Love it! Another member of the ratty GS club! Don't change a thing. Well, maybe just the wheels Use it and enjoy it. My rust bucket gets more attention at cruise nights that some restored cars.
I agree-get rid of the Chebby wheels; they’re beyond redeemable, but put some steelies, shabby rallies, or flea market aluminum slots on it, tune it up and drive it! Welcome! Patrick
It is a 71. Sorry I forgot to mention that I made due with this 71 Haha. I still think the 70 is the best looking year though.
Welcome from WV I like your car,I have A 54 bel air all primed up and call it my rat rod,it gets more attention at cruz ins some times than shiny cars.A good thing about A beater is you don't have to clean it.
