Another update.. Interior is finished. New carpet, new seat cover, painted dash, nice dash pad, all gauges installed and tested, all new dash bulbs. Windows and door locks and all things that move have been lubed and tweeked. All new rubber moulding is in a box waiting until after paint time.. Still working on the exterior. Just sanding and priming at this point. A good beer drinking project. That's why painters drink.. Car will be painted an 09 Pontiac color called Sport Red Metallic. It's a medium/dark red metallic. Engine is back from the machine shop. Bored 30 over with the crank turned 10 under and polished. New cam bearings installed as well.Custom Crower cam is laying on the bench. Pistons are installed on the rods.. $200 for machine shop work. I tipped him!!! I have decided to stay with the Speed pro hyper pistons with the blessings of some very knowledgeable folks. The pistons and the engine itself, minus the machine work, were almost free.. If I blow it the fu*k up then oh well. I have another 350 as a spare that I will be working on too. Tires and wheels are here. 325/50 Mickey Thompsom ET street radials for the rear. I have a buddy with a car that is going to be a doner for all of the little parts that I still need to make this thing go. I'm still missing EVERYTHING in the engine compartment except for the bare engine itself. Oh, and I need a transmission as well.. I have a guy lined up to build the tranny. He's good..
Well. Since I don't know much about cams. Let's see if I can get the numbers that matter. Advertised cam specs intake 284* .496 exhaust 276* .446 based on 1.55 rockers Duration at .050 intake 226* exhaust 210* Lobe lift intake .320 exhaust .288 Lobe seperation 114* Intake opens 3.0 BTDC closes 43.0 ABDC Exhaust opens 43.0 BBDC Closes -13.0 BTDC Cam was ground so that I can install it "as is" simply by lining up the marks. Cost was just over $200 delivered. One phone call was all that was necessary. Hope they know what they are doing??
Forgot to mention.. All new brakes and bearings. MC, lines, rotors, calipers, pads etc.. Both front and rear bumpers are polished and near perfect, with all lights installed and ready as well.. Shocks and exhaust on order too..
Wow.. I haven't updated this in a while. Car is ready for paint and hopefully will be painted very soon. The door jambs and trunk are perfect and painted already. I will have to trailer it to paint as it is still without a drivetrain. The body took way longer than I thought it would to make it look nice. I'm still waiting on the heads to be done, with Mark's roller rocker kit. I have no idea why this guy is taking so long. Still waiting on the tranny. Guy is just too busy to get to it. I'm running out of stuff to do while I'm waiting. I even cleaned up the trunk and spatter painted it. Oh well. Not really much fun stuff to update.
"Would ya like a little pepper with your foot sir?" You moved pretty fast outta the gate. Your doing fine, keep it up:TU:
In the grand scheme of things it really hasn't held things up so much. It just changed the order of things. There are two seperate folks doing the heads and tranny and both will probably feel bad that they have taken so long that they will charge way less than what they should. I am to the point now where I need something from someone. I'm out of stuff to do and the car is just waiting under a shelter for the next step.. Whatever that may be. Hope to trailer it to paint next week. That will be a big step as I can start putting bumpers and trim and such back on. It really won't take long to do that though. I really need the heads soon though.. The engine will look immaculate..
Update.. Going to get a trailer tomorrow and hope to get it to the body shop on Thursday. It's a Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealership that is so slow in the body shop area that they are painting it for cash so that long time employees, that work strictly on comission, can make some money. It's a win-win situation.. They just recently did work on my GS from where I had a fender bender and it looks perfect. It will be a medium red metallic called cayenne red metallic. Base coat clear coat. Was quoted $600.. Materials included. I'm going to look over it again this afternoon just to see if I missed anything.. Just ordered a nice aluminum radiator, a tranny cooler (big), chevy rockers and a custom converter from Jim Weise with a guestimated stall speed of 2800.. Still waiting on the heads and various little engine parts. I will try to get my 3.73s and posi installed while it is at the dealership. One of my best friends is the lead tech there. I've know him for 30+ years. He saves me a ton of money with his knowledge and help. ONWARD....
I am running one of his switch pitch setups in my 72 skylark bracket race car. I love it. He said it should foot break stall at 3000, and it does.
Paint shop did an outstanding job with my bodywork. The primer on the right front fender and hood bubbled up badly and they had a difficult time fixing that. DO NOT USE RUST OLEUM PRIMER.. Plasticote and duplicolor worked fine. I tipped them for their extra effort. The places that I used fiberglass are way better than I ever thought they would be. You would never ever see them unless I pointed then out in the right light. Onward.. Lets put this thing back together this weekend.. Fridge is full of beer:beers2: Still waiting on the stuff to make it runo No: Dave.. Go by and stick a firecracker in Bob's but. (inside joke)..
X2 I think I may need to trailer my car down to where ever you got your paint done... going to be 2 arms and 1 leg to get it done up here, 'course I have some body work that needs done Keep up the great work, watching this with much interest!
Hey Car Looks Great. What color is that? I need to paint mine some day and I realy like that color. Thanks Josh
