I'm gathering parts for my 1977 350. The air cleaner housing shown came with the motor. At the junkyard yesterday I picked up the plastic elbow for the pre-heater hose, but when I got home I found out that my thermac 'fitting' is 1-1/2" diameter, not 2". Could this be the wrong air cleaner housing, or does the correct elbow reduce from 2" to 1-1/2"?
I’m no expert on factory air cleaner housings but I do believe the two 2” pieces your showing are correct for a Buick 350/455 With that said, the elbow 2” piece looks like it’s from a GS “ram air” OR the twin snorkel Buick air cleaner housing. So, being two pieces are “known” I know the metal 2” piece bolts to the center of your cylinder head and the 2” foil/fiber hose goes to the air cleaner housing. Knowing all that, the 2” elbow and your air cleaner housing are wrong.
Mark . In my years at the junkyards I have always found that the ones that were 1 and 1/2 inches usually were on Chevys . They used a metal tube from the manifold to the air cleaner . Buicks usually were 2 inches Those Chevys with the 1 and 1/2 inch were around mid 70's and up .
The air cleaner housing came with the motor along with a bunch of other accessories & I assumed it was the right one but it must not be. Eventually I'd like to get the right housing, but for now I might just make an adapter to go from 1-1/2" to 2". Thanks all.
Nope - I finally got my carb back from the rebuilder, and when set properly on the carb, the snorkel is facing the wrong direction (it's facing the passenger front corner). So, the hunt begins for a correct stock 350 4-barrel air cleaner housing.
I have a bunch of air cleaner assembly's at the other garage . You can have one if I have it for the shipping . Problem is I won't be there for a couple of weeks .
