Just depends if you want the overdrive gear or not. The TH700r4 (with overdrive) takes a little bit more work in the sense that you'll want to wire in the lock up converter.
Just a random video I took of the car today. I think the mic is going out of the camera and the left exhaust is perpetually low, but oh well. The Car Craft Anti-Tour is this weekend, going on a 1400 mile road trip :TU: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5XgziOZIHg
Hi SilverBuick, I tried to watch your video but youtube is filtered here Did you install that mirror?
Damn the guberments and their internetference. I have several German's and Dutch on my facebook, and occassionally they post video's or linked pictures that I get denied from watching. The Canadian's we have working here from timing to time get grumpy because their Netflix-Canada doesn't work here I have not installed the mirror yet, I want to clean it up better. I sanded it down and hit it with a "chrome" paint. It dulled out to a generic silver. Might be okay, but I'm going to try another "chrome" paint first. Then paint my driver's side one to match =P
I kept meaning to ask you where you got your tow hitch for your buick. Was it a stock option? or did you fabricate it?
Some of those metallic type paints dry to a dull color. The trick is using the right clear coat which tends to give them the depth and sparkle that you expect in the first place. Whichever clear they recomend or is in the same product line is the one to use.
Believe it or not I just walked into the local parts store, pulled out their trailer hitch book and found one for the car. Keep in mind, it's just a bumper hitch, and the bumpers are attached to psuedo shock absorbers, so there is some kind of limit of weight for it. I haven't ripped my bumper off yet so I haven't exceeded that amount yet... =P
haha alright i'll have to go look. I was just curious because i was thinking about getting just a little trailer for random yard stuff etc.
Put 2,500 miles on the car last month, have about 1,100 miles on it this month already. Fuel mileage still averaging around 19mpg. But this should slow down for a while as I'm pulling the engine for a general refresh for Hot Rod's Drag Week in September and to swap on some aluminum heads and who knows, a bigger cam?? Meanwhile the Centurion and Jeep will fill in for general road tripping if I go on any. The Centurion will likely be getting a transmission rebuild/replacement after the Skylark is back together so it can be my "backup" car if the Skylark breaks before Drag Week. And the two OHC blocks and heads will be going to a machine shop this week to be cleaned up and checked out to decide which ones I'll go with for the first build.
Just getting a set of standard TA SE Aluminum heads. With my assembling/building skills I don't need to be driving over my crankshaft, just some incremental increases in efficiencies, detonation resistance and weight savings. Cam wise, just got another promotion (i.e. bump in pay) so looking like I'm stepping up to the smallest roller cam TA has made to date, lol. Should go a long way with longetivity since I never run a zddp additive after the initial cam break in and one oil change afterwards. Final spec's haven't been determined yet because my pistons aren't notched, Tim and Mike are working out the details, but I did say I wouldn't mind vacuum being below 10inHg at idle by conventional wisdom, because I'll certainly try and gain some of that back with the EFI and timing controls. Plus my driving style typically includes plenty of engine braking (i.e. vacuum building).
Heads and roller lifters showed up today. I'm still waiting on the cam since it was a last minute change, but that's ok since I haven't pulled the engine yet. Hope to start on that tomorrow. Just a run of the mill set of TA Aluminum Heads. Nicely wrapped. Also a BIG thanks to Bruno here on the forum, a set of 3.42 gears showed up as well :beer
This has officially snowballed :spank: The engine had started smoking a little in May so I decided to take the pistons out for inspection and this is what I found =\ This is #3, the ring lands are broken. It didn't even phase the engine bores, I pulled it apart when I saw the cracks. #1 has a few small cracks but doesn't come apart. The others "look" okay. When I built this engine 3 years ago and over 30,000 miles ago, TA had a back order on forged pistons so cast 10:1 is what I got. I think the 3.08's, Las Vegas heat and crap summer blend gasoline did it in last month. So I've officially gone to this: http://taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1611B My plans are to have the block and rotating assembly at the machine shop to get block cleaned up to the .038" over, completely rebalanced and "maybe" have the bottom end blueprinted assembled. But it'll likely be July 1st before I have the time to take it to the machine shop. I'm bummed out about the time the car is going to spend down while the machine work is being done instead of :3gears: I expect the cam to show up soon, so I hope to be able to order correct length push rods before taking the block in.
I have no idea when I'll next be in CA, I went twice in May and once this month. At this rate it could be October or November. Too many projects backed up to leave town, plus usually the folks come and visit me in summer and fall. In anycase to answer your question I go to Fontana, CA when I head south.
