Found this on a vette forum, a gut made a 1964 custom vanity plate for his vette, and the State of Minnesota approved it. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1104356&forum_id=4
Nicely done. I suppose as long as nobody else already has the same plate (unlikely in this case) it would fly. I was going to do that for my Chevelle (ie, make a cool plate out of several donors) but I found a 1974 "Manufacturer" plate and so I run that instead. Saved me some "bump and paint" work! K
I bought a pair of genuine, never issued, Michigan Plates for my 66 that were still in the wrappers for big bucks at a swap meet. Applied fo it only to have it denied because somebody already had that number....????? WTF? My guess is, they don't look at the year, just the numbers. Also the zerox copy you send in with the appplication is black and white, so you can paint them any color you want. Doubtful anybody still on the active roles in the police forces would remember what color a 40 year old plate would be. I'd kill for a 1968 and a 1966 Michigan "M" plate.......(Manufacture's plate). I noticed that on your car first time I saw it, Keith........
I don't know if you have them in other states, but I have a dealer-personalized plate that reads Buick 1. I have never seen another one here in Texas. It also has dealer stamped at the top . A plate dealer at the swapmeet says he has never seen one but would certainly buy it.
