hi guys i plan on getting new rims and tires a meaner look and ofcource better handleing/traction i plan on getting 255 60 15s on a 15x8 rim on the front i'm not sure which size to get.. front rim is a 15x7 choices are a 215 65 15 or a 225 60 15 which one would keep me more level and which one would do better in the twisties? i like the staggered/slanted look but i'm also putting on the GS front spoiler and dont want to nose dive and break it lol or break it over a speed bump.. thanks in advance mike
In my humble opinion, since you've got 15x8's in the back, your car would have that great "big'n'little" look with 275/60/15's or 295/50/15's on the back and anywhere from 225/60's to 245/60's on the front. However, in your tires sizes, you've got a ton of options as well. I think you'll find that most people here like the BFG T/A's, Goodyear's, or Firestone Firehawks. The most important thing for, however, is matching all 4 tires (as far as manufacturer, and tire model), not speaking of running drag radials or drag tires on the back. I am going to run 245/60/15's all the way around, in Yokohama Avid S/T's. They should be on the car this week at some point, so I'll let you know how they work out. Nothing really beats the look of the traditional BFG T/A's concerning the muscle car appearance, especially if you run the raised white letters out. General rule is, the bigger tire will not only keep you more protected (taller tire, more ground clearance), but the wider the tire, the better its going to be in the corners.
yea i was originally gonna go with avid sts, 275 60 15s but when i went to pepboys they looked big as hell...i dont actually have the 15x8 rims yet..stillhave 15x7 stockers around the 225s 60s 15s are wider then the 215 65 15s and pretty much same height as for tire bran i'm pretty sure i'm just going to go with futura forget what mdel they were but they were performance all season..
I have 275 60s on the back of my daughters car and 235 60s on the front. both ends have 7 inch rallys with no issues at all
hey man do u think u can show me your daughters car in a more direct side view to see how much stance it has...and maybe a front to back (diagonal) view thanks
Putting 255s on the front is aking for a fender rub issue. 245s are about the max even if your suspension is up to spec.
Do you have good pictures of this, side and rear view? We have a set of 15x7 4" backspace IROC Camaro rims were putting on the 84 and are looking for tire combos. On a related note, is this the same backspace as stock Regal rims? Thanks, Sean
Jim, I also heard that, but I've had 255/60-15 all around on my car for 5 years with absolutely no problems. When I first put them on, I had to trim my Year One front spoiler baffle because the tires hit the baffle at full lock, but the tires never rub on the fenders.
Just picked one example out of the archives to illustrate the risk. I am certainly not sayng all have had a rub with the 255s but a number have. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I have 255/60-15's (15x7 wheels) front & rear on my GS. The rears never rub but the fronts will rub alittle at full lock, especially if the suspension is compressed. So, if I hear them rubbing, I just back off on the steering alittle. Besides, how often do you drive with the steering at full lock? Now your 15x8's may rub even more with the same size tires, especially if the extra width is to the inside. __________________ Mike Bowman"
well i think i'll be going with.. futura supersport gls raised white letter tires cragar keystone klassics fronts will be 235/60s on 15x7s (3.75 backspace/-6.00mm offset) rear will be 255/60s on 15x8s...(3.875 backspace/-16.00mm offset) maybe go up to 275s later down the line will be doing rear discs when i install a detroit tru-trac w/3.42s in the rear but just want to know what bolt pattern that is needed to fit a 72 skylark and for backspacing...the bigger number the wider it sticks out, and how does offset effect the rim? thanks mike
I am running 265/50/15 all the way around on my 1972 boattail riv it lowered the car all the way around by 2 inches but unfortunatly it hurt my fuel milage??????? If you can beleive that lol. The front tires do not rub and give the car a much more aggressive stance and significantly improved handling.
ok so i'm finally in need of tires so i'm going to order those keystone klassic rims decided on 245 60 15s on a 15x7 rim 3-3/4 bs for front for the rear ill be going with a 275 60 15 on a 15x8 rim.. now my question...should i get the 3-78 bs or the 3-1/8 bs rim? dont want no rubbing issues from improper back spacing...if its due to saggy suspension i could deal with that lol
