Looking to replace my OLD OFF BRAND solid white letter tires with some new ones as they are 8 years old. Looking to pick between Cooper GT radials and BFG TA's. In the past I was always OK with the Coopers but know they were bought out recently. BFG TA Radials on my past A bodies always seemed lose grip on turns in the rain. Has anything changed?
I got these on giga tires and saved the boatload of money. Enough that I would change them every few years https://www.giga-tires.com/
Not looking for other then mentioned as I have Telstars! . The Discount Tire chain does not list the Coopers anymore and is pushing the BFG's
I’ve never had an issue with BFG TA tires and I run them year round. 295/50R15 and 235/60R15 on 15x8 wheels. No issues even in the winter, still 100 mph lol. I run 28 psi in winter and 37 in the summer.
Stupid Floridian -- did not even know running different pressures seasonally was thing. Can't imagine non car guys do it. Big impact? Common?
In my case on my 71 Skylark and 86 T-Tpye I had more than one occasion to lose the rear in the rain and not at any crazy speed with the TA's. Switched to Coopers and in both cases never had the issue again.
If "white" is of importance to you, stay away from the BFGoodrich, unless you want to frequently treat them with sandpaper (see this thread) https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...e-layer-of-the-letters-on-bf-goodrich.370955/
With the discoloration of the white letters in the BFG radial T/A tires, I would promote the Cooper Cobras.
oh absolutely, it makes a huge difference running lower tire pressures in the winter. Everyone I know does it.
Maybe for a larger contact patch in the snow? Lower pressures make for a hotter running tire with sloppy handling characteristics.
I'm partial to Coopers. Been running that brand on all my vehicles for the past 30-ish years. Never had any problems and found that they do seem to hook-up better in dry and wet situations. They also seem to ride better and last longer than the TAs. I currently have the BFG TAs on my Malibu and Cooper Cobras on the GS400. The GS400 is much smother, though that could be the car, too. Best deal I found on the Coopers was Sam's Club. I had to order them from the web site, then took the wheels only to the club near me to have them mounted and balanced.
I’ve been happy with these Mickey Thompson’s. They handle and wear well. Traction is nothing compared to MT drag radials though. I run around on these for the most part then change out if I need serious traction.
