Okay guys, need help with answering the question thats been rattle my mentall state. Got a buddy that dismantles Monte Carlo's (why i don't know, but he buys them and completely tears them down for parts) Well, he has working full A/C,heating unit out of a '71 Monte Carlo, offered it to me, for a few hundred. Now, my unit, "A/c heat and all", is out (dead).

    1. Will it fit in my 68 skylark ?

    2. Should i spend a few hundred and risk it on a his old unit, and maybe end up haveing to re do parts of it, installing updateing parts ?

    3. Just park car,go with out and Pray my number hits soon, buy and have a new unit installed ?

I am no expert but I would pass on the chevy stuff and repair/replace what needs to be done on your Buick with Buick parts. A few hundred bucks for used A/C parts that are not a direct fit is no bargain IMHO.
If you need hoses you can get them from Year One or any other number of places, compressors are mostly generic.

well i have a non A/C car, and a leaking heater core which i bypassed, so I'd say just drive it as is. :)
Unless you can't live without either of those.

But yea spending a couple hundred for a used unit that may or may not fit correctly I'd pass myself.

some of the parts will work some will not. box im not hurndred percent but it may. the compressor dryer all that will work. controls are not the same. unless it was 100 bucks 150 its not worth your time.

I pulled the A/C box, long ago, right after the compressor went bad,"while out on a cruise" (A/C wasn't working anyway). Had disconnected the heater core, a few months later, when my temp started running high, noticed then that it was linking. so now no A/C or heat hooked up.

But guys i have to tell you, last friday i was off work and prepareing to take my car to the shop, get a new heater core installed, started drinking my first cup morning coffee, while looking out over my car and the next thing i now, it was around 1:30-2 pm and i was done, removeing old and installing new heater core. The longest part of it all was going to the 3 local auto part stores to get it. one could only order it, the other carried it but at there main warehouse, 15 min. drive away.so had to go pick it up. But was not as hard as i thought it would be, and got a chance to do allot of under dash cleaning while at it. oooo i passed on, the other A/c, heater stuiff.
