I've heard and read nothing but good stuff about these rings. I saw a comment on one of the threads that lead me to believe that they aren't too highly thought of here. Anybody have any personal experience with this product? My engine will be going together this fall to go into the 67. .040" over 455, 67 430 big port heads, no final decision yet on the intake, forged pistons, resized stock rods, etc.
I used them again this year (used them several years ago) , and will continue to use them. In MY case they did pick my car up about a tenth, plus almost 2 MPH over a "non-gapless" type. However, this could be due to poor ring sealing in my previous motors.... Maybe just a crutch.? Just food for thought.
I have used total seal rings on several occasions over the years. Never had any problems with them, except when I switched to the newer top total seal rings , what a night mare that turned out to be. Jim Burek
My motor was built about 5 years ago.....also a 455" .040 over using Total Seal rings. I got them through TA Perf. At Least 25K on the motor and prolly around 50 passes at the track, countless Jaunts on the street......still goin' strong
Jim: I've read a lot of your posts and have a lot of respect for your opinions on various items regarding high-perf BBB. What was it that turned the Top Gapless rings into such a nightmare for you? Thanks
What the problem was , was that at the time we did not know , nor did total seal know or tell me that the end gaps on the top total seal ring had to be opened up to more like .007 to .008 per inch of bore size in order to prevent ring end butting. As a result , we installed them with a more conventioanl end gap, and of course the rings butted, cost me lots of time and money to fix that. I am not saying the rings are no good, just passing on some info. Jim Burek
For some reason....I seem to remember that because I was .040 over, that there was a specific mopar application-size that fit the piston perfectly....... ......just stuff falling out of the cobwebs in my head
