Hello I am the happy owner of a 1964 Riviera and has just fitted a towbar on to my car, so I can go on summer holiday with my caravan. In order to get the towbar approved by the Danish authorities and get an insurance, I need a type of certificate, confirming how much weight my Riviera may/can pull on the towbar.I have tried to find information on the internet, but has found nothing on the subject. So now I am turning to you - can you help me? Do you know how I can get hold of a certificate or whoelse to contact? The weight on my caravan is 3400 lbs.Yours sincerely? John Nielsen? From Denmark

I have towed with a tow bar a lot and personally i hate them, in fact i had one break that i borrowed and the one i purchased i gave away. I found a car dolly to be safer but now i only tow with a trailer. The tow bar i found put leverage on the rear of the tow vehicle, so if the vehicle being towed was close in weight as the lead vehicle or larger it could easily over power the lead vehicle in a turn. I only ever towed with at least a 1/2 ton truck or larger and kept the 4x4 hub locked on so if the towed vehicle broke the rear of the truck loose i could yank the 4X4 lever and hammer the throttle to straighten things up. Something to think about here. We see motor homes and such towing with bars all the time but they always far outweigh the vehicle being towed. In your case i think you might be in for some trouble.
