This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy.. Just send an email to me at jim@trishieldperformance.com and I will verify your registration. This policy will remain in effect indefinitely, as it has completely eliminated the bad actors from our site, who would spam and hack it, once they gained access. Thanks JW

Tow Rig Question

Took the Suburban in yesterday to have the toe set after replacing all four tie rod ends. Guy comes back and tells me it needs ball joints so nothing he can do. Wants $500+ for the job. Now, this is a 1988 3/4 ton 4X4 so I realize it wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world to do, but supposed to be a long way from this tough too.

Has manual hubs. Took the covers off, got both wire snap rings off and the locking part of the hubs taken out. Went and got the special tool (naturally) required for the next nut. 2' breaker bar didn't work so I used my impact and got it done. Now I have what seems to be yet another nut requiring another special socket. I have gotten it loose and it spins pretty easily but doesn't come off. The hub is loose now and will move in/out about 1/2" but will not come off.

This is the first time I have taken one of these apart and the crappy Chilton's Manual is zero help. Neither of the two exploded views of the 4X4 front hubs looks like my truck's set up. It basically says "Take the hubs apart, remove the nut holding the wheel bearings and remove the hubs." Not with my truck of course.

ANY IDEAS OR THOUGHTS ARE WELCOME!! I am supposed to be leaving Saturday to move from Reno to the Seattle area! This is the wife's rig and she will be depending on it for transportation....

    HELP!!!!!

since 1988 was the first year for the new body style on the truck, maybe the book is explaining a truck set up. since the burb didnt get the new skin until 92 or 93, maybe the burb still had the old works. have you looked at a book for 87 and older set ups? :Do No:
