Howdy, I'm going to speak hypothetically here because this is a bit down the road for me. I have a 64 Special with a 225 oddfire V6 and a 3spd floor shift from the factory, talk about an odd combination. I really am not interested in turning this into a performance machine, in fact I'm far more interested in getting the best gas milage I can out of it. Current plan is a modern carbed V6 from the 80's (the 3.8 or 4.1 varrities) with some basic bolt on stuff, combined with the stock 3spd for the time being. I'd like to get an overdrive box, what are my options without slicing up this ride? Its a bench seat car so no console to worry about and even with some addons, we are probably talking about 200-250hp max at the flywheel. I'd like a Ford T5 as they are plentiful, cheap, and relatively durable if you don't go mixing torque and traction which I don't really plan on doing anyway.
