Well, I was just informed by my mechanic that the two speed ST in my 1965 Skylark (with a 300 c.i. 355 Wildcat motor) has a cracked casing. Apparently, this is going to cost me $2 grand to fix, because (according to him), there are no replacement transmissions for my car. Now I'm not very inclined to believe him at this point, and a new TH-350 from Original Parts Group is only $799 plus freight. I think the option of swapping to a better tranny for cheaper seems like the intelligent, logical choice, if it can be done. Now my question is, what would it take to do this? OPG advertises the TH-350 as a direct bolt-in, but I'm obviously getting mixed responses here. So I figured I'd trust the great resource that is V8 Buick for some help! As always, thanks guys! On a side note, I did a search and couldn't find anything. If there's something I missed, feel free to link me and I'll gladly peruse it!
Wow. That's like a mirror of what I needed... I feel silly. Oh well, thanks. Problem solved. Edit: 2 posts below this one. Wow. I'm sorry, guys...
FYI...you might want to consider selling the ST300 converter to a board member, they're more desirable than the larger ST400 unit. You might search "parts wanted" to see if there's demand. Devon
Not to change your mind , or anything....o No: But, I do have two cases for these transmissions that I just have not been able to get rid of. (hoping for someone to need them...) I would be willing to clean one up and ship it to you for what shipping costs, if you were so inclined. May take a couple of weeks, with Thanksgiving and work involved travel. Probably be there by mid December. Just an option, if you like keeping the car "original". You might send me a PM if this interests you, as well as responding here, I am not in here as often as I should be and might miss it. Jim
