trunk won't open on my 69 buick gs 400 convrtible

Discussion in 'Help From Above' started by gerrybuick400gs, Nov 10, 2012.

  1. Hi. I turned the key to open the trunk lid and heard the usual pop and expected the trunk to pop open. However, it won't open and the key appears to not work. Can I pick the lock or can I put the convertible top down, take out the back seat, and crawl into the trunk to get it open? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Gerry.

Hope you don't have too much stuff in the trunk. You may put the top down to pull the backseat out, but you'll have to have it up to reach into the trunk. I'm not familar with what is behind the back seat of a '68 A-body convertible, it may be a hole big enough a small person could climb through, or it might be a small hole you can barely reach your arm through.

In September I had the lock cylinder on my Skylark's trunk break and it was the same deal. Key would turn, trunk wouldn't open. I was surprised to find the hole behind the seat was really small. I used a ~3ft long flat blade screw driver to reach in there and pop the trunk. I was glad I didn't have the trunk crammed full of junk. New cylinder was under $10.

    35 years of service.

This happened to me on my 67 Skylark. It would not unlock. I shot some lubricant (I used PB Blaster) with an extended nozzle in the key slot and it did the trick.

At times I have needed to apply a little pressure to the top of the lid to get it to pop up.

Just use a long extension or two thru the back seat area, and unbolt the lower three latch bolts on the body if all else fails, worked for me several times.

  7. Thanks! Gerry.
