Orig bittersweet mist does not do it for me..... Have pearl white interior.....want to use a 71 color.....considering Cascade blue (med blue) .......or Nocturne blue (dark blue) Nocturne blue was not avail on Skylark/GS.....does that hurt value down the road? At least it is a 71 Buick color and the car won't be orig color anyway? Is Nocturne blue the same as Diplomat blue in 1970??? Bruce
I have a blue one too, but it's really hard to say which is better. I like the orange one to be quite honest. The orange car looks like it's ready to head out, while the blue car looks like it's just thinking about it.
Mike, is that cascade blue or statomist? I wish I could be happy with the bittersweet mist but it just looks like rust to me.... seen enough of that in my lifetime on the east coast.
Stratomist, I believe. If you don't go with bittersweet mist I'm betting that someday someone will be spending a lot of money putting it back to the original color.
Here is another vote for Bittersweet. My 71 is Burnished Cinnamon same color family as Bittersweet. I have though about painting my car Bittersweet many times. Be thankfull you have a cool unique color on your car. If you do decide on blue go stratomist. Nicest blue Buick ever used.
Also Nocturn Blue And Diplomat Blue are different colors. If you want to use a different year color it does not matter as it will not be original anyway. It is your car and your choice. Choose wise young Skywalker!
Trying to decide on color Stratomist Blue is a real nice color, the black vinyl roof would really set it off nicely, yet I refused to put a vinyl roof back on my 69 GS but love the one on my 71 GSx
Aqua Mist MY FAVOURITE COLOUR FOR THE CONVERT WITH THE WHITE TOP & PEARL INTERIOR WOULD BE "AQUA MIST" !
Thanks guys...... My son Matt's (13) latest idea is a real dark candy apple late model color. I think he saw it on a Caddy. It's pretty much his car so I want his input. Last fall he was gung ho about the bittersweet after we picked up a muscle car calendar at a parts store. Tried to explain that practically any color looks nice when it's in primo shape. I've always settled on colors based on originality or what was on a car when I bought it. Would like to do one that I REALLY like.
So are you guys saying that my "orange" car is really called bittersweet mist? I like bittersweet mist soooo much better! Thanks Tim
It's a GM Colour. Gun Metal Metallic, it was on 84-87 Camaros and now it's on a 71 Riviera. Pearl interior, Black top. The colour looks lighter in real life.
keep it!!!!!!!!!!! i gotta go bittersweet mist.i am about to paint my 65 b/s,black top, interior to be decided.
I would think that my car is flame orange but the picture that China Mike sent looks like the same color as mine and he said that his is bittersweet mist is this correct? If not what color is the car in the pic that Mike sent? Tim
Tim, Give me a call and stop by some day later next week.. I will show you the 71 Buick Color and trim book, used at the dealerships when the cars were new. It has actual spray out cards of the actual paint in it. Since these cards have not been exposed to sunlight, and the other factors that fade and change the color of the actual cars, the colors are as Buick intended them to be. While I would not doubt that there may have been slight variations, from the factory, even with the same color between different cars, this book was shown to customers selecting their new car, so the color had to be at least very close the color of the car, or Mrs. Johnson would have had a fit when her new car was not the color in the book.. Bittersweet mist is an awesome color, when it is new. It's much more copper colored than your Flame Orange, and it's also a mettalic color. Definately one of the top 5 picks in my book. Bruce.. a word of warning. If your painting base/clear, it's very unlikely that you will walk into any paint store, and get the correct color. You will most likely get one that is close. If your painting lacquer, then you have a much better chance of getting the right color. When they cross the color to the base/clear forumula, the toners are often not exactly the same color as the lacquer ones, so the end result is different. But don't misinterpret that as me saying you should use lacquer.. it's not what it used to be anymore. Modern Urethane is a much better choice, especially on a driver. We have to go thru a process to match the color here, of hand tinting and spray out panels. Really a pain in the rear, but that's just the way it is. I say this just to warn you that if you see an original color on a well preserved Original paint GS that you like, don't bet you can walk in any paint store, give them the code, and get that color.. it might be wayyy off. Have them mix a quarter pint, do a spray out, and insure that is the color you want, before you buy enough to paint the car. And while it's true that you will hurt the value of the car, buy not painting it the OE color, how much really depends on the type of car.. if it's just a nice driver, as long as you don't paint it pink, it won't be a huge factor.. If it's a concours car, then matching the correct color is very important, othewise you might as well paint it black.. :spank: JW
Jim, thanks for the reply. I will stop in sometime this week. I also want to see the projects that you are working on. Tim
