Apparently they want to live up to their name of "mutha thumper' and have a heavy lope, efficiency and power gains be damned. "Appearance" is what sells to the market it seems, and with a nice lope, everyone is brainwashed into believing 'wow, that thing must really have lots of power' when they hear it. Like you, I tend to go in the other direction as well. I like smooth idles and better gas mileage while having lots of power. A nice, quality lope doesn't bother me, but drivability is top priority. Cheers to you bro.:TU:
I believe the LS camshafts tend to have wide LSAs because of the long runner EFI intakes. Throw a Victor Jr. and a carburetor on an LS engine and it likes a narrow LSA (108 to 110) just like most old school V8s.
Jim W, I am interested in converting my 350 to full roller. I was wondering if you have had a chance to check out a 350 with a roller version of the 212 cam for comparison to the flat tappet? Thanks, John
Updates? Curious what power I can look forward to NA before the turbos go on. Glad I spent the extra cash to go roller
Hey Jim, great read on your build. How much would you charge to do similar head work (installing larger valves, springs, etc also) as those number are about what I'm looking for.
Depends on if we are starting with rebuilt castings with good guides, or cores.. from good core heads, your looking at the rebuild with guide work/ surfacing/ valves/springs/seals/locks/retainers at about $900 and then your going to add about $850 worth of porting time on them.. so a couple thousand pretty easily.
