Turbo 350 leaks at the gear selector shaft. Easy fix, or not?

Not a big deal, but annoying, since the engine leaks not a drop. I hate visiting someone and leaving a few spots in their driveway.

What does it take to fix this?

Lot of tool, there. I've only ever picked them out with a sharp screw in the metal portion and "hammered" the new one in with my 8 oz ball peen hammer.

Simple if you have the pan off. You can pull out the shifter shaft and then pop out the old seal. Use a socket to tap the new seal in. You can do it leaving the shaft and pan in place. I did drill two small holes in one 180 apart and used pics to pull out the seal. Then used a deep socket to tap the new one in.

You can buy a cheap version of that tool for like 20. on ebay. It will work fine. It probably won't last a lifetime, but it's easy + fast. Yes...you can put a screw in, or pick it out. The tool is cheap, fast, + easy.

On my ancient TH400s, that shaft often had rust on one end, which in turn destroyed the seal.
If rust isn't cleaned up first, a replacement seal may be very short lived. I am able to pull the
shaft in the car, with the pan off. good luck, Bruce Roe
