I have a small problem which is probally simple, but is a really big problem but its really not, if you know what I mean. I have a left over part from a recent tranny overhaul. And for the life of me , I can't figure out where this funny shaped u clip thing goes. I'm pretty sure, at least that I think anyways. This little clip belongs somewhwere near valve body, near the parking rod linkage somewhere. I jus barely remember finding it after I pulled valve body out. Towards tailshaft she was laying in tranny. And it's not the s-link clip, an not the clip that goes to down shift cable setup. Well here's a couple pics of what I got here.

And this is what happens when you have a nicotine fit an you turn around to get a cig an watch your tranny fall off table into floor.
And this is what happens when you get over zealous with tightening down your vacuum modulator bolt.

So if someone could help my forgetfull @$$ and point me in the right direction for this silly little clip I will appreciate this very much. :beer

This is not good! That spring/clip should have been one of the first things that was installed. It goes in the case where the low/reverse sprag/roller clutch is. I can't think of the proper technical names right now. It should have been in the case when yhou installed the first/bottom case snap ring.

Here is a poorly scanned picture. In figure 7E-99 the spring is circled. In figure 7E-100 you can see it a little more clearly at the 5 o'clock position.

There is a little snap ring on the end of the shaft right there and it is on. And there is also a big snap ring that goes against the clutches and that is also in there. If you are talking about something else. Then I don't see it. I have been trying to figure it out in my chilton automatic repair book. But the diagrams and that one piece just aren't matching up.

As stated by Devon, part #17 in his picture. Goes in the case between the lugs (can barely see the ends of it @ 5 o'clock postion in my scan), then part #19 in Devon's pic goes in over it, then part #18 is postioned so that one end is on the flat part of part #17 and the gap in the snap ring misses the rest of this part.

You guys are very correct. I stopped by a tranny shop an they showed me where it needs to go. Damn chilton manuals anyway. But clip isn't going in very easy for me. So I take break an try again. I thank you guys very much. :beer
