    Hey guys...

    I found a cheap turbo 400 trans.

It looks like it has the "long yoke" on it.... from an Old Bonneville, I'm told.

Would this work in my Skylark or do I need a short one?
(I'm assuming I'd have to get a custom drive shaft?)
    Thanks!

You have to change to tailshaft to a short one. But your going to have to get a new driveshaft anyways.

So the short shaft is mandatory, even though I'll need a custom/different drive shaft anyways?

It sounds like you can swap the short/long shafts, but you need to tear the tranny apart and replace the tailhousing as well?
Its going to get rebuilt anyways, so it wouldn't be a big deal- assuming I could find a tailshaft and housing.

  4. you can fit a long shaft in a 65 you just have to get the correct length driveshaft made. the down side is that with the tranny output shaft being closer to the rear you end up with a sharper angle on the universal joints. ideal way is to use a short shaft.

I have installed long T-400s in several a body GMs Buicks Olds and Pont.
Never had a problem. Drive shaft needs to be shortened of course.

I just installed a long tail in my 1970 Riviera. I found a fresh rebuilt 400 that was going in a gto. I had to get the drive shaft shortened and I had to fab a crossmember.
