Just wondering if a bpo turbo 400 mates up to a nailhead, and would I need a long shaft or short shaft for use on a '64 wildcat.
If anyone can help it would be great. Thanks, Kap

Nailheads have the unique roundtop bellhousing. You need a 64-66 trans. 65-66 had the switch-pitch converters.
Rumor has it, some Jeeps used the Buick trans (with an adapter)for a few years in the 1970's.

Nailhead has pretty much its own design bell housing/bolt pattern, so why not just find a ST400 that has the Nailhead bolt pattern...
I've got some spare cores here in Cincy.

Buicks were the first to use the 400, they just had a different bolt pattern. I would look for that case as said above.

I have a spare ST400 complete if you have a mind to cross the Canadian border near Niagara Falls.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll just wait till I put it away for the winter and have my trans rebuilt. Kap

The '65 to '73 Jeep full size trucks came with a nailhead TH400 (I have one I pulled from my '73 J4000 I rolled) and adapter ring (I have photos of mine) then some with BPOCad and an adapter ring and finally with an AMC pattern case till end of '79 production.
The early Jeeps came with Buick motors as an option too (225 V6 had the BPOCad pattern along with the 350s used in several models)
