I have a 65 turbo 400 vp in my car. When I pulled the trans out recently to fix the vp the yoke on the drive shaft is short, maybe six inches. I've been told the yoke should be a lot longer and the spline should be recessed about halfway down in the yoke. Problem is I'm leaking fluid from the seal around the yoke. Wondering if the length of that yoke could be a problem. Brand new seal by the way. Does anyone know if I should have a longer yoke?

    Thanks Bob

There are a couple different style yokes. The short one with splines to the end of the opening, which should work in any trans. The longer one you described must be used on a shaft with an O ring; the ring contacts the inner smooth area. It has a center vent, which will leak without the O ring.

Your short yoke ought to work. You could support the trans & pull the yoke/driveshaft and tailhousing. See if you have an O ring ahead of the splines. You might have a loose bearing for the yoke, the yoke could be pretty sloppy on the output shaft, or maybe the tailhousing just needs a new seal. Bruce Roe
