had this problem once before but it went away, and i didn't change anything for it to fix it's self, turn signals are staying solid, not blinking, i jiggled some wire's but i get nothing, balbs are fine???? what's wrong
Have you checked the flasher unit itself? It is usually hanging somewhere around the fuse panel. Round about an inch or so and plugs into a connector. Also try removing the bulbs and cleaning the contacts in the bottom of the plug.
On the same topic, Kinda.....Are the front side markers supposed to flash with the turn signals? Mine do but I'm thinking thats wrong......
side markers No...they are just running lights....should not blink...I would check for a bad ground...
i have a 72 and mine blink also with turn signal (when bumper light is off the side is on and extra.and with the turn signal problem i had that problem last summer my cause was the socket itself was burnt up and corroded.you can check that make sure its clean and springs in connecter are working freely.or go to local auto part store and buy new one and just splice it in .i would also check grounds like that was said above.but i bet its same problem i had because for awhile i was able to shake the wire and it would work till the socket shorted out.
With respect to the side-markers, they are supposed to blink with turn signals, but typically only the fronts do that. Be sure that the brake light filaments are on with the turn signals. If the running light filaments are connected, the insufficient current draw will prevent the heated element in the turn signal flasher will not heat correctly, making the flashing inconsistent or non-existent, causing the turn signals to simply stay on. Be sure that all of the bulbs connected to the turn signals are correct, typically 1157's. The turn signal flasher gets its ground from the bulbs, all of them. If any are not properly connected, the result will be either slow flashing, or no flashing. It is possible that the flasher is defective, but the bulb issue should be addressed first. Ray
LEDs? This may be a dumb point to make, but you aren't running LED conversions are you? Just-in-case...here's something to consider: When installing LED units in place of factory incandescent bulbs, you MUST change the flasher as well. Here's why: A flasher operates by being "charged" with the flowing current on it's way to the bulb. Once it reaches a certain point, it discharges, which operates a set of contacts. The contact then close, and the whole process begins again. These opening and closing contacts are what makes the bulb flash. When an LED is installed instead, the current draw is SO LOW, that the flasher never completely charges enough to open/close the contacts. You instead need a low-draw flasher (read: relay), designed to function at the reduced current level that an LED demands. This was in laymans terms, and if everyone already knew this then I apologize....just something to know for the future! Also, I recommend LED's be used wherever they are practical/available. They are easy to install, draw less power, last damn-near forever and are WAY brighter than bulbs. Nothing is worse than having your finished baby out on it's maiden voyage and being creamed in the a$$-end because some kid didn't see your dim taillights.
well ya got me, tried a new flasher, didn't work, tried an old flasher, still didn't work, checked all the bulbs, all of them light, and no corrosion, but the light in the dash stays lit (does not blink) nor do i hear the blinking sound, but the light's in the bumber, is on, but not blinking, and same with the rear i don't know
Nope, you are missing something. It's either the bulbs or the sockets. I would take each bulb out, make sure it is the right one(1157), and clean/ inspect the sockets. Beyond that, don't know what to tell you. It's not the column.
Most newer cars have two flashers. One for the hazard or emergency flashers & one for the regular flashers. Look in your owners manual or the rear of an older motor's book to find the location.
update!!! okay guys, went through all that you told me, so far i put brand new 1157's in the front bumper lights and the rear taillights, also put 1156's in the rear backup lights (reverse lights, white) and new fender and quarter 194's bulbs, tried two new flashers and 4 others i had in the garage, had my friend look at it, he ran some tests, i have good ground we checked headlights markerlights, got good ground, the flasher is the correct flasher 552 still have the same problem as descriped above, sorry it took so long to check all that, it did take some time to run all them checks and tests, and money that was wasted, for a problem that still exsists this problem can't be all that un-common, one of my neighbors has the same problem in his 70 2-door monte carlo, and he had it in his 4-door pontiac lamans, he got rid of the lamans shortly after the problem and the monte is sitting and he is in no hurry to fix it since he has a little girl he's busy with raising, and another vehicle to drive somebody has to have an answer edit: forgot to add. i even went through the main fuses and started checking them, and even re-placed a few that weren't bad anyway.
How many flashers have you found??? If you have only found one you need to find the other. If, as you say, "you have checked all that has been told to you" you are still missing something. Normally a bad signal light switch will not cause your problems. Although it could be. Did you find a second flasher???
i have only found one flasher (round can style, only 1 provisions outlet in the fuse box) unless theres another somewhere else o No:
Oh yeah, there's two, one for the hazards, one for the turn signals. You may have changed the one for your hazards. Take it out, and see if the hazards work. Look under the dash. The hazard flasher plugs into the corner of the fuse block. The directional flasher typically fits into a clip on the bulkhead where the parking brake pedal is.
Thanks Larry, that's what I was talking about. Most all forget about the 2nd. flasher. A picture says thousands, not just a thousand, words!!!!!
alrighty.......I found it, had to do some under dash searching, it was under there but it was tucked away never to be seen, when i did find it, the clip was still on the flasher, but wasn't mounted at the parking brake, oh well. thanks larry, if it wouldn't have been for that diagramm, i was ready to rip out all the wires. this buick board is awsome, so far the guys answered every one of my and got me pointed in the right direction cheers to the buick board :beer
