I've finally got the JW 470 installed in my 85 Regal with a Vince Janis 200-4R trans. I'm planning on finishing up some minor wiring and connections this weekend before I cover it up for the winter. My question is can I adjust the TV cable with the trans dry or should I fill it with tranny fluid before adjusting it ? I will not be able to start it up and run it on the road till next spring.

I see no reason why you can't let it sit all winter with the cable adjusted. After all, no one ever loosens them up just to store them. The first time I did mine I had the pan off and had my son push the pedal all the way down. I wanted to make darn sure the valve was completely compressed. After I got it set correctly I marked the cable on top so if I ever had to remove it I could put it right back where it was. Glad I did that, I've had that trans out four times already.

I had never considered adjusting the TV cable that way,but it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info Golden Oldie 65.

You won't know if the TV cable is adjusted properly without a line pressure reading and/or a test drive. Obviously, both require fluid in the pan and the motor running.

Looks like I'll just wait till spring when I can start it up before I adjust it. I've waited this long a few more months wont matter. Thanks for the info guys.

How much pressure should be observed when the trans functions properly? And under what operating conditions? I've not ever read any guidelines for this test just that you need a 0-300psi gauge.

Factory set points and pressures are in the ATSG manal for the 200-4R; Most transmission shops have then, or can get them and sell them; they are also inthe MOTOR manals in the library in the reference section.

To start with, what carb are you using and do you have the parts required to make the TV cable work with the carb?

Second, have a look at this site... They have info about the pressure you should see etc.

I'm using a Holley 850 double pumper and have installed the TV cable adapter for a Holley carb I bought from Jegs. My son who is a diesel engine mechanic has offered to adjust it for me. I trust him he knows what he's doing. Thanks Sean.
