Holy pipe thread Batman, does anyone know what size pipe plug is used to fix this problem?

Jim B says... Use a 3/4 freeze plug with epoxy around it to make sure it seals.

Too late, I already put a 1/2 pipe plug in it.

Holly valve seals batman, valve spring will not fit over the valve seals.:idea2: :Dou: I was changing out my break-in springs and found that the performance springs do not fit over stock valve seals. I guess I will be calling T/A tomorrow. But first I will see if I have the correct seals on another set of heads.

Are you freaking kidding!? I'm afraid to ask "what's next" because the Nightmaro might have an ace up its sleeve.

Sorry James you know I am one of your biggest fans - But, this build is like watching a mouse try to find the cheese in a maze.:eek2: I hope you find the cheese soon

Anthony, you should try being the mouse. Not only is there a maze, but someone keeps moving the damned cheese. Well anyway, the heads are at the machine shop getting the valve guides cut down to except .531 seals. Luckily he had some .531 X 3/8 seals so I don't have to wait on TA. He said he is a week out but that he would work my heads in between other jobs and try to have them back to me early next week. You know what that means, it will be two weeks until I get them back, knowing my luck on this build.

2 weeks? It's good to see you haven't lost your optimism.

If you are using dual springs, not only will you have to run a smaller seal but you will also have to get the spring pads cut smaller for the inner spring and depending on the lift you will need to get the top of the guide cut down so the bottom of the retainer dosen't hit the top of the guide and break rockers/rocker shafts. Thankfully.. NO.

I'm starting to think the machine shop lost my stuff and just hasn't owned up to it yet.

I changed my order today to include lowering the spring pads because they are dual springs. My cam has .480 total lift at the valve, he is going to see if there will be any spring bind. Thanks for the heads up. I think you just saved me from breaking something and having to pull the engine again.

Man, I've been watching this thread for a while now, I like the comment about the mouse looking for the cheese, but it sounds more like were waiting for the cheese to find the mouse...I hope you get everything together soon, I want to see what it does. But really guys, he's building a better "mouse " trap if you know what I mean.

Got the heads back yesterday and it cost me $120 to get the spring perches all cut down and the intakes cut to .530 to except a smaller seal. I lapped the valves and installed the dual valve springs today and installed the heads for the first of 3 rounds of torquing. I race this weekend, so it won't be ready until Monday or Tuesday to fire. Then I hope this better mouse trap will also be a good rat trap. Gunning for high 10's but will be happy with low 11's in my 4000lb Nightmaro.

    James,
Good to see the Nightmaro project is creeping (yes that was on purpose  ) along. I think you are at the point I am, just plugging along to prove to yourself that you can get this to work.

I just got my intercooler installed yesterday and just drove it around to see what effect it had on the cooling system. Raised my idle temperature a few degrees from 185 to 192 so no problem there. I got a custom carb hat from Mark that is just awesome. Should finally have the fuel system done and almost all of the parts next week. I think I have all of the parts but you know about that thinking thing.

Need to get the batteries charged for my camera and start posting but who has time to take pictures.

    Jamie,

I already broke the cam in with an old set of wore out stock spring I think they only had like 150 pounds open and like 90 closed. The cam looks like it is bloke in nicely. But thanks for the info.
