Does any on know what shade of black the under the dash parts was, such as the gas-brake pedal brackets, the heater box for a 69 GS. I am trying to figure out if they were flat, semi-gloss or high gloss. Thanks
For what its worth my car ( '69 Skylark Custom) has a semi gloss on the plastic/fibreglass heater box. Looks original, no paint on it. E brake pedal & the painted section of the bracket is glossier than the brake & accelerator pedal. Some of that could be wear on the pedals. The ebrake bracket is bare metal/satin black, with a hard masked edge between the painted & unpainted sections. Brake pedal also has a hard mask line on it. About 1 1/2" inches down from the pushrod hole. From the wear and the masking line I suspect mine is orignal. Its Fremont built, did other plants do it differently? I'd be happy to post pics if that helps. Cheers Chris
Thanks for the info, I have read on some other places that they say the under dash heater box was flat-but I still haven't confirmed it
I have to disagree with any gloss on a Non-AC under dash heater box they are DEAD FLAT. I have two originals in my parts stash and they have no hint of any gloss at all. That also goes for the one from my GSX I repainted. Many GM A bodies in my local junk yard I visit and they all are flat as well. Want a picture? For another interesting tid-bit the heater box on the engine side of the firewall was glossy. Much more glossy than the firewall itself.
I figured out from some old pics that my was flat black so that's the way I went for the under dash heater box, but the pedals I painted semi-gloss black.
