Yep, that seems to have happened with the 430 in my GS. The intake manifold doesn't want to line up anymore.
I find it’s the coolant leaks that are more likely with the steel shim gaskets. The cylinders seem to seal better I agree.
buy the super thick TA composite I take gaskets, they will help the alignment. They come in diff thicknesses.
I asked Tim at Ta about my rockers on my assembly wobbling. He said that is perfectly normal. They don't wobble after they are bolted back on the head.
I plan on checking clearances carefully and adding booster plate concerning the new oil pump and installing the TA cam bearings and front/rear seals. Is there any other oiling modifications my 72 should have?
Buy the TA shim pack for the oil pump and then set the gears up with minimum clearance. About .0005 is good. Jim
Why? I am still waiting for the problem to happen how else you going to hold them to the head and not move
Thats great if it works for you but the gasket manufacturers state they are to be used dry as is. That’s how they are designed to be used. From Felpro: Fel-Pro head gaskets are also designed so that no additional sealers are needed. Modern facing materials and Fel-Pro's proprietary coatings will compensate for minor surface imperfections, resist scrubbing, and provide the proper amount of torque retention to create a true no-retorque head gasket. Use no sealers, adhesives or other additives with these gaskets.
We are not talking about head gaskets we are talking about using copper spray on composite intake gaskets. The answer is... It is ok to use the copper spray to hold the composite Intake gasket in place until the intake is dropped on. I have no other info that says you can't.
