Up in the air

I finally got my car up on stands so I can work on the exhaust manifold. I've got it supported by 6 ton jackstands, 2 in the front near the end of the framerail by the bumper supports, and two in the middle on the crossover under the front seat area. The back is on wheels. It's solid and stable, I tried shaking it (but how do you shake 3 tons?) and it wouldn't move. I can't get back to it for a few days, and probably won't want to with the cold temps coming. Is it okay to leave it in the air like that for a couple days? It's only up about 20 inches in the font.

Also, I broke my first bolt. :( It's not on the engine block though. The bolts on the manifold are actually pretty loose, got two of the bottom bolts out with no problem. The bolts on the clamp that connects the manifold to the crossover pipe are really bad, though. And in a weird spot, too.

I have had my car up on stands for the last 5 years.... nope, wont hurt anything....use the time to soak, soak, soak the rusty bolts and nuts in pb blaster , atf , ect.... makes a difference....

Thanks. I sprayed it all down today again.

I saw a Cutlass on jackstands for over 10 years on a wood-floored shed. Still there as a matter of fact.
If I'm not mistaken, PB blaster has how-to on the can on the best way to use their stuff. Spray, wait, tap lightly, spray, wait, try the wrench JUST A BIT, spray, wait, wrench the other direction, spray, wait. All of the small moves breaks the bond and more spray helps to wick the solvent in. Pretty soon it moves and you get that good feeling. :TU:

Yep and in the past , I have drilled into the side of castings with a very small drill bit and injected pb blaster into the threads with a syringe and needle... works...

I probably wouldn't use the 2 jacks in the middle, as other than close and as a back up, with the rear tires on the ground, but sounds like you have checked it. I usually try to tighten first to check for movement and in case I round off a bit, better than doing that in the loosy direction-if you have a torch available somehow, use it too-

Patience wins the day with rusty, stuck bolts. A lot of PB Blaster, Aerokroil, ATF, etc. A LITTLE effort. More lube, more time. A LITTLE more effort. Don't rinse except with lube, then repeat until successful!
