upper rear main rope seal

    can any one tell me how to remove the rear main rope seal with out loosening the crankshaft bolts? i ordered sneeky pete and have removed the lower rope seal,i just need a little on removing the upper. :mad:

    (1) Take coat hanger wire and bend the end into about 1/4 to 1/3 circle the same diameter of the seal. Use it to PUSH the seal out.
    (2) It helps even more if you have a helper turn the engine over by hand in the direction you're pushing the seal out.
    (3) It helps even further if you can use a large bent fish-hook and stick the barbed end into the opposite side of the seal and pull gently while doing #1 & #2 above.

    Once you get enough of the seal to come out of one end, take a pair of pliers or vise-grips and grab a hold of the seal and use it to help, while continuing to push on the opposite end and turning the engine over.

    Just be careful, you don't want to tear it. Good luck.
