Them beaurocraps would've simply CRUSHED them.

yes, wasn't there a news report earlier this week about how they were gleefully demonstrating that they were throwing them straight into a crusher so nobody had to "worry" that they'd show up on the street again?

This program just makes my blood pressure rise.
They are borrowing money from the communist Chinese to fund the purchase of Korean and Japanese cars to stimulate the U.S. economy?
And as for helping Americans to get an advantage in hard times, how many people without a job or how many of the lower income Americans are going to be able to buy a new car?
Lower income people loose worst than most of us on this because not only are they stuck with their share of the bill, but they are now without those good used cars to be able to buy.

And these are the financial geniuses that say they can run a "better" health care system.

Seems like our USA gov't has been running on stupid pills for quite some time. Put your party affilliation aside. What these people do collectively seems more moronic than Forrest Gump on a good day.

What I really don't "get" is how we voted people into government that are really this stupid. Another example is how they are going crazy about compensation for securities brokers. This is how they were paid for years and all of a sudden it's a bad thing. More over, if they want to raise taxes on the high earners to pay for all their new stuff then why are they beating down earnings for the few people that actually do make a lot of money? For me it is just too stupid to understand how they can be so dumb.

Lastly, I was really pissed offed today to hear that the congress was taking $2B out of a loan program to small businesses to fund an extension on clunkers program. These people don't understand that a loan program pays back versus a payout program that doesn't? These people are responsible for the national debt, defecit spending, and to my mind have proven themselves completely incompetent.

Imagine Nancy Pelosi is third in line to run the country. How did that happen?

I agree. Forest for congress, then on to the white house!!
These people get elected because there are so many stupid people. People who believe they can get something for nothing. The same people who don't get that while they are bitching about the oil companies, Government makes more on gas than the people who make it. Same with booze, tobacco, and lots of other stuff.
I'm a surveyor and I can tell you that the county and state make more on a lot of types of jobs than I do, a lot more.
Got to fund all that free crap, and yet they are still in the red.
You are right about not a party thing too. The Republicans don't have a leg to stand on when they talk about the Democrats loving big government and high tax rates.

What is the cut off year for the Cash for Clunkers program? I was reading today's newspaper and saw a pic of various "clunkers" waiting to be disposed of in California. In the background I could quite clearly see the driver's side front of a 1979-81 Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am.

I'm sure it was 25 years. If the TA was in the photo there must be more than cash for clunkers cars in the photo.

There may be a few good ones on either side, but for the most part, vote them all out and start over!

The program is full of pros/cons. We will be poorer with this economy. Some of us can't benefit in the program. I would like to get rid of a $250 plymouth that will cost me more to fix and pay insurance over 5 years of keeping than $4500 given in cash for clunkers program. Think about those clunkers that are paid for benefit people than those new car payments and higher insurance....maybe suspend it and organize another method for a cash for clunkers program.
