Can the Pontiac sized springs (1.385" O.D.) be used on a stock BBB head without machining the spring pocket? What is the diameter of the stock spring pocket? TIA.

The 1.38 od is fine, what about the inside diameter?
Why are you wanting to use pontiac springs? If memory serves me correctly, they have a shorter installed height than the Buick springs. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

    You are correct Jim.

The Pontiac installed spring height is typically in the range of 1.53" - 1.59", depending on year and engine option. The closest one that I know of is the '70 Ram Air 400" motor, with an installed height of 1.818"...still too short. Buick spring height is about 1.89".
