Well after following the 100 mile break in that yukon says for there gears I decided to test out my new posi. First thing I did was try to race my friends 02 cobra mustang. Bad Idea we came to the stop and he just blew out of the intersection and even tough he was not getting traction still destroyed me! So I thought whatever right gotta tune it some more to get it better I mean his cobra is stock excpet for a new intake and 3.73's. So we pulled up to my house and I asked him if both tires broke lose he said he didnt know and I didnt because I couldnt here it.So i back out go to the stop sign at the corner and step on it the tires barely break loose but it chirped really hard in second.So then after that I did a brake stand and both tires started spinning nice then all of a sudden my skylark just started hopping insanely bad so I stopped and pulled in my driveway. Soooo long story short why did it start hopping I have never owned a car with posi is that normal?? I have really good tires so is that why? Also what the hell can i do to beat that cobra I have done a lot of stuff to my car to get destroyed by like 5-10 car lengths? I think I need a new carb I have a 600 cmf holley Q-Jet replacement carb I want to get an 850 someday:rant: Well guys any advice or tips is well appreciated again sorry for such long posts! Russ
Firast of all, your buddy's Cobra is a 2003, not a 2002. The Cobra is no slouch. Its got a 390 horse, handbuilt supercharged engine. Manley H beam rods and a steel crank. Its also got a Tremec T-56 six speed with 3.55s from the factory. The Mustang is also very light compared to your car. Its a hell of a car. And very fast. A mild 350 in a Skylark isnt going to cut it. No offence, but you brought a knife to a gun fight. The hopping you experienced was called "wheel hop". Common problem. Google "no-hop bars".
Jasons exactly right ...I see cobras "mildly" hopped up running low 12's with just 2 changes .....an overdrive pulley and new flash program dropped in. They are no slouch and I hate Mustangs. J
These 2003 cobras are the most sought after mustangs. With a little and I mean a little cash you can make 500 to 600 ponies. This is what i'm told by a mustang guy. BEWARE SMALL BLOCK GUYS.
Been sorley tempted to merge into the stang world with an 80s crap box version for that light as a toothpick chassie with megalo prices on parts. His is not supercharged its the year before they were supercharged. It does have a 6 speed but he put 3.73's in it.I thought i could run with him because our friend at college has a 68 firebird with a 72 pontiac 455 and he roped the cobra but I walked on his firebird earlier today
I think the only reason I got on the firebird is because he is a peg legger and Its a 4 speed and he drives like ass.Oh well anyone have any suggestions or should I just put on a new carb and nitrous kit??
You probably outweigh that cobra by 1200#. Your hopping is common with coil spring rear and spinning tires. You need to make some changes in your suspension. If you want to spin the tires, you need some no hop bars. Or you can set it up to hook up and go, no spin and no hop. We don't like to spin, except in the burnout box.
You should talk with Justa350 guy. He sells twin turbos for small and big blocks. Juice? I have zero experience with it. I know it gets pricey filling that tank up frequently.
Yea I know mark sells the turbo kits for us but not enough cash! I spent a lot of time and money rebuilding my engine trans and rear end and im still getting roped by a damn mustang! Yea hes car is cool but I thought I would at least be able to run with him!! Freaking we raced before after i rebuilt then engine and trans,and like i said I just broke in my 3.73's and I was hopin to at least give him a run not get dusted by six car lengths
Bah Im getting all thrown off tonight I need a new speedo gear.The gears made my speedo off 15 mph can I just order one off summit?
I don't see any information here about your current combination, besides your rear end gearing. Hard for guys to give advice w/o knowing where you are starting from.
