We have just rebuilt our 57 Century motor and have extremely high oil pressure At about 2000 revs it is over 100psi and has blown the rear main seal and it over pressurises the lifters and throwing the motor all out of wac. Can anybody help. Have we blocked a hole some where or put something in wrong possibly the cam bearings. The relief valve does not appear to be blowing off at 40psi as recomended yet it appears to be assembled correct.

pretty sure it is the 300 engine the relief valve is not stuck we have had the sump off 5 times now there no other noises Is it possible that the front cam bearing could be in wrong and with the holes not lining up correctly and it is not delivering enough oil to the timing chain. From what I understand this is where the oil pressure is supposed to drop and send low oil pressure to the lifters and rocker gear.

could be, but the 57 pump is a vacuum/oil pump- it also houses a vacuum pump to operate the wipers.

is it the correct year pump? all passages clear and hooked up correctly?
    you might try checking that

Not that familiar with the 300. But a few years ago, I rebuilt a 455 pump, and got the relief valve in backwards, and it exploded the filter on startup. On the 300 can you get the valve in backwards?

Wrong oil pump is my best guess. Wildcat-4speed analysis makes sense to me. Although I have never encountered this problem. I do have one of these engines (364ci) on the engine stand and would be able to make an inspection and photograph if needed.
