I'm picking up a 1970 Skylark on Sunday, so I guess I'm about to make my way into the domestic world. I've got a 2006 Subaru Impreza STi as a daily driver for the moment, so going from that little 4-banger to a 350 V8 is going to be interesting.

I'm curious as to what kind of a deal I'm getting, the car is rust free except for the right rear quarter panel. The floors, trunk, etc. are all solid. The motor and tranny run fine with no issues. The paint looks...well... it looks 37 years old, so that's going to have to change. I'm going to pay $1500 for the car, does that sound about average? I'll post pics when I pick her up.

Also, I'm wanting to make the car into a reliable weekend cruiser that I could potentially take long road trips in and also have some decent power, although I have the STi as a go-fast car. Anyways, I think I'm going to have the motor rebuilt just for good measure, it's old and probably a little tired. Same thing for the tranny. Do you have any recommendations other than getting a master rebuild kit and taking it to a machine shop?

Anything at all I should look out for when I pick it up is also welcomed advice, I'm using this car to learn, so I know very little right now.

$1500 sounds like a good price for what you described about the car. How many miles does the engine have on it and is it a 2bbl or 4bbl?
