Discussion in 'Wet behind the ears??' started by Buick-68Sweden, Sep 3, 2013.

  1. Hello out there!

I have a question; during acceleration (softly) from 0 up to ca 5-10 mph i can feel a vibration in the car, after that speed and up its diseapear, so its only when the car starts to move, what can that be? anyone who have noticed the same?
    Thanks in advance!

U-joints in the driveshaft. Cheap and easy to fix. Start there!

  3. Thanks for answer, will check those U-joints, thanks again!

If that doesn't work, it could be converter shudder, depending on age and brand of converter.

  5. Thanks, will have that in mind to. Are going to check the U-joints tomorrow and see how they are. Have put the car into garage for the winter now.
    Thank you for answer.

I had the same issue when I bought my 68 last year. I can't remember exactly what my mechanic called it. He called it something similar to a CV joint - located between the tranny and driveshaft - similar to a U Joint but it had to be custom made/rebuilt at a machine shop. That took care of it. In fact, he said it had a special grease fitting that took a special applicator that looked like no one ever greased before.

oh baby, i went thru this exact thing with my 67 wildcat, after u joints, carrier bearing, and stumped buick people, an older fella adjusted my pinon angle with shims on my rear upper control arms....done! this took a year of frustration. vito

  8. Thanks everybody for infos, will have this winter looking up things on my car.
Will also try to find out where a small leak with oil came out of the gearbox (TH 400)
Thnks again and have a great time over there.

Just fixed a very similar issue with my 67 wildcat this evening. My rear transmission mount was wore out, 45 year old rubber definitely struggles when subjected to Buick torque :)
cheap part and only took me about a half an hour to swap out ...

  10. Thanks, will check that too, will look for parts in that case, maybe I have to order it from the US.
    Thanks again :)
