    4 34 37 0 H 283091

    4 = Buick
    34 = GS
    37 = 2 dr Hardtop
    0 = 1970
    H = Flint, MI
    283091 = sequential production #

    34 37 1 H 144199 <<< as i'm sure you've noticed, you've left the '4' off of the beginning of this VIN

    4 = Buick
    34 = GS
    37 = 2 dr Hardtop
    1 = 1971
    H = Flint, MI
    144199 = sequential production #

    VIN codes won't actually tell you that much about the car and prior to 72 they don't even tell you what engine came in it. get us the trim plate numbers and we can tell you the original color and interior.

    Oliver you left out most of the VIN. It will start out something like 443374K followed by 113389. The last series of numbers are the Fisher body sequence numbers and K is the Kansas plant.

    Jim

    Cars & Parts "American Car ID Numbers 1960-69" indicates only a 9 digit VIN, the same as Oliver gave.

    Kansas plant comes up an 8 in 1964.

    Sorry there Korrie. I apparently wrongly assumed they used the prefix convention later used.
