Dang. Good call on vintage Realistic! I totally forgot about them. But I do remember going in to RadioShack and drooling over pair of Mach 2's back in the day. Those Mach 1's look wild though!
Fixed my Dual 1229 last night. It's a direct drive, no belt. It was just gummed up from age and non-use. Thanks guys, now I'll have Grand Funk Railroad, Mr. Limousine Driver, struck in my head all day.
I doubt it I loved going to Tokyo Shapiro, or any of the other local audio stores, hell, even Sears had a decent audio section. I remember the smell of those stores, with all the audio equipment running it was circuit board, some tube equipment, wood cabinets for speakers and equipment, it was second only to the smell of a junk yard on a hot summer day, oil and grease soaked dirt
Didn't Pioneer make RS receivers? I just checked evil bay & my Marantz 2270, which is like new and all refurbed electronics + wood case & all documents = $2500! WOW. Mine not for sale.
Spent a bunch on putting together a really nice system years ago: Amp # 1: Counterpoint SA-8 Amp# 2: BK Components ST-140 Pre-Amp: Counterpoint SA-3000 Tuner: Rotel RT850A Turntable: Rotel RP850, not sure of cartridge, need to check further but I know it is very good quality CD Player: Rotel RCD850 Speakers: Main Speakers JSE Infinite Slope model 2 Secondary Speakers JSE Infinite Slope model 1 All gold speaker cables and interconnects House is wired and Pre-Amp has capability to drive both amps and sets of speakers simultaneously. Main speakers are on main floor and secondary speakers are in basement/man cave. Unfortunately, the large speakers dried out and need to be replaced although the cabinets are solid wood and weigh over 100lbs each. ( they are on rollers). The Counterpoint amp and pre-amp are tubed units and could use re-tubing and maybe some electronic upgrades. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to find someone who is qualified to closely match replacement speakers and can take care of the electronic side. I truly miss playing this system....it's as close as I've ever heard to a system duplicating musicians playing right in front of you.
I have never heard of Counterpoint, but now I am going to look them up. Rotel? They make incredible stuff, and thier remotes are like finely machined aluminum bricks. We need pics though please. Or at least I do
In the new year, I am going to be selling over 250 lp albums acquired since 1975 up thru the 1980's. I will then post a pdf list of all the albums & suggested prices.
I deal with a vintage audio store for my consignment sales, equipment maintenance, etc. Unfortunately, the repair bay at the shop is, usually, full of McIntosh gear. But, it could be the post-70's gear that's being repaired often. Nando.
My current garage set up. The receiver is 27 years old, which blows my mind. It seems just like yesterday...
That is exactly right on Voodoo Chile and the Paranoid with the sound like blown channel yeah I used to freak out on that. A lot of Ozzie sounds off the scale on distortion guitar solo on Master of Reality album comes to mind here Some great stuff being shown here lets have a meltdown, shake the critters out of the attic lol
Crutchfield has those McIntosh to sell they are way out there on price as they always have been but was supposed to be top quality back then I am sure the same now.
Counterpoint was a smallish, boutique type California based company who produced high end tubed amps and pre-amps which also incorporated mosfet technology. They went out of business several years ago when the founder and technical brains behind the company retired. I heard he may still be a little active in repairing/upgrading existing products and am trying to confirm this. They were known for producing products that yielded a warm sound because of the tubes but at the same time, with the meshing of electronics, also produced sharp base, midrange and treble. Will see if I can post some pics.
