I've been trying for years to get Mark to do a few little tweaks to this car and run Pure Stock with us. I can't blame him for leaving it just as it is and has been since he restored it himself 12 years ago.

No trailer queen either, cruised all the time in fair weather, and consistent winner at Olds meets and local events. Just won King of the Hill at the Dick Miller Olds Nats at Norwalk.....again! (BTW Rob Thomas won the Street Stock class......again....with his gorgeous 69 442 W32.) Both will be running at Milan Dragway this weekend with the OCA Nats.

Way to go Mark! A few more grey hairs and he may just come play with us one of these days. I'm working on it.....:Brow: :Brow:

edit: Mark was runner up in the Street class at Norwalk (talk about irony) not King of the Hill. He used to clean out the KOH every year. He lost to Rob in the finals with a .007 redlight.

Of interest also is Jeff Smith from Illinois who won Pro class in his turquoise 67 Cutlass. He had a perfect .000 light and ran perfectly on his dial in. Collected $1000 for each of them from a sponsor on contingencies.

Rob and Jeff will be running a best of 3 match race at Byron the first week of Sept as a special event. This is the first time they've ever met and should be great watching two of the best door slammer drivers in the Oldsmobile ranks. Seems like both always win at these events but ironically have never faced one another in the same class yet. Jeff's car is faster than Rob's, so Rob wants him to start in the water box and Rob will start at the normal place if the race is heads up.

Is it still considered an Olds highjack if you start the thread yourself and it's already about Olds? Added the info on the upcoming Byron match race and corrected the other mistake in the original post.

Mark Prince's car best embodies what I want mine to be -- running high 11s in near-stock condition. He's gone a little too far to dial it back for Pure Stock, but Mark could run F.A.S.T. if he dropped the headers (where have I heard that before?) and choked down the exhaust size a little. He'd also have to swap on 14" wheels with Polyglas.

Jeff Smith is probably the most consistent bracket racer I've ever seen. The guy's RTs fall within a very small window.

He'll meet his match at Byron with the orange car in the match race that was setup. Jeff is good, very good, but so is Rob Thomas. He's fresh off wins at Norwalk and this past weekend at the OCA Nats race. Both are two of the nicest and most consistent racers I've ever seen. Jeff has a few little aids in his car (possibly a trans brake, but maybe only a line lok, not sure. Rob's is all foot brake. Big difference in hp and weight, edge in both to Jeff.

I really think if they ran 20 times, it'd be 10 and 10. Come to Byron and watch them go at it!!!!!!!!
