    I970GS455 For the love of Buicks...

    Well, I kinda hate asking questions like this, but need help.My goal is a low to mid 12 second car, but this needs to be set-up mainly for car club events with alot of street manners. Heres what I have, but if something is out of kilter, let me know.

    Car is a 1970 GS455, automatic trans with a/c

    I have a .030 bored sleeved block(3 sleeves) that Im thinking isnt worth chancing to get to my performance level goal.Bad part is Im about a grand deep into it with bearings installed and sleeve machining done
    Has hypos
    Thinking of finding another block and going forged {didnt I see a JE .038 somewhere?}
    Also have;

    SP1 (need to see if its old design or new)
    new Holley 850dp
    new GM timing cover
    TAs billet double roller
    TAs 3" exhaust
    TAs 2" primary header
    Currie built furd 9" with a 3:70 gear
    Hemi Killer cam from "the club"
    Stage 1 Valves (heads machined for this)
    stock rocker assembly
    **All parts are 3 years old but never used**
    (No convertor bought yet)

    Im really leaning towards the head upgrade. Which aluminum head would work best for me? I know the Stage 1 aluminum would be good cause I could use my existing header and valves(or no?)Stage 2 requires another header which jacks up the $$$$ factor. I know HP isnt cheap but doesnt have to beoutta this world either. Guess Im asking fora 12 second street sucess recept and try to use some of the things I already have.Ive owned this car 10 years and have 500 miles on it since Ive had it. Time to get it going!
    Now the floor is open for discussion

    :TU: Thanks all

    looks, like your on track, just keep on this site and learn, its not that hard to go low 12' with good iron heads, do some cam research, they have developed better cams, the TA 290-08H is the most cam you can run and still be a good street car, it is so popular TA cant keep them in stock, just my 2 cents

    Thanks for the reply Kelly

    I see you are in my targeted area time-wise. What is your base set up?

    I will try to say this and make at least a little sense. Im looking for a combo that might be a little more than I need, (ala aluminum heads) so I dont have to run the car to death to achieve this 12sec goal. Maybe keep the car a good bit away from 6 grand shifts if you know what I mean.......

    Wayne, the easiet way to get what you want there is to go to the alum stg-1 heads, with just some bowl cleanup and a good valve job, you will easily be inthe mid 12's with your combo of parts. If you want to change blocks and go with forged pistons, that's fine, but you can do it with what you have. Jim Burek

    Oh my gosh I want a set of those heads so bad but 2500.00 :jd: Are they going to last long enough to get my moneys worth out of them? I may have to ship those to the shop and use a seperate checking acct. so my wife doesn't find out:Dou: Clint
