Figured I'd follow Gary's (@BUQUICK) lead here & post for any stuff from where my cars came from. This is an odd one. According to the dealer list compiled, the dealership was at one time located in Glenns Falls, NY which is a distance (almost 200 miles) away and wasn't in business for very long at either location.
Bruce Buick was founded by Marcus Buick in November 1952 in Warrensburg NY then moved to 624 Upper Glen Street, Glens Falls NY in December 1960. They relocated to new location in Queensbury NY in 1969. Marcus passed away in 1970 and his brother George ran it in the 70,s from that location. I do not know when it dissolved but it was still active in Queensbury in 8/1976 according to town records.i do not know where White Plains came in all of this.
That makes a lot more sense that it would've kept the same dealer # in those 3 locations! Something always seemed amiss there. The owner's last name was really Buick? Do you know all this just from living in the area? I'm not sure how the Dealer List was compiled but I believe it was done by @gsxnut working with The Sloan Museum. Regardless, somewhere in compilation or the records something must've gotten crossed up. My '70 GS 350 4-sp was purchased there, presumably from the Queensbury location (05C body). It's a real oddball car in many ways and the location mystery just added to the story. Thank you so much for sharing that information!
Sorry, name was Marcus Bruce. Yes info from living here and i had a few cars from there, back in the day.
The Buick dealer list 'years of operation' are only some verified years - I've seen this first hand in combing the Buick list for joint Buick-Pontiac dealers, then subsequently / usually finding far longer spans of operation. Note that the common earliest year on the Buick list is '65.
I run a Pontiac dealer database, and have found genealogical sites to be excellent for searching- these are yearbook ads from MyHeritage.com (requires subsription).
