    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

I know it's a shot in the dark, but does anyone have a glass hood or fenders for 70-72? I don't care what style, just trying to lose some weight off the nose. Email me njvetteguy@aol.com or PM me, please don't post here as I've been "sniped" before.

    Thanks,
    Artie

    Fiberglass parts

Just last week I received my pair of Skylark fiberglass doors from WS Racing.
    Two major problems,

First - I paid for the doors to be shipped in a wooden box. They claim they put them in a crate and shipped them to me. When they were dropped off at a friends house, they were loose with no crate or box in sight. They must have bounced around in the truck for quite some time, as they are damaged on all edges and corners. VERY BAD!

Second - The overall quality was very poor in my opinion. I do realize that they are a light weight race car part, and not a street piece. BUT, the fit, finish, quality of the mold, etc., is in question in my opinion. On a scale of 1 thru 10, I would give them a 3-4 at best. VERY BAD!

When I contacted them at WS, they blamed the freight company for all the problems, including how poor the quality seemed to be. He said that they were great when they left his place. I hope to be resolving the issue with the trucking company, but it remains a fact that I am very glad I didn't order the rest of the fiberglass components for my race car from them!

I am curious to hear from other people that have purchased items from WS. Did you get a good quality product?, or did you have a similiar problem like mine? :Do No:

    Hey Steve,

Sorry to hear about you doors.

A few years ago I helped my buddy, Brian, paint two fiberglass hoods. This was a side job that he was doing. One hood was a 4" cowl hood for a 69 Camaro. This came from Harwood and cost a very pretty penny ($400 plus or minus). The second hood was a 4" cowl hood for a 66 Dodge Charger. This hood came from W.S. and only cost about $115.

When it was all said and done, both guys had a little over $600 in there hoods. The Harwood we just had to scuff and shoot. The W.S. had hours and hours in it before it was ready to spray. Both hoods looked great when finished.

I know this dosn't help you any, but I thought I'd pass it along. Sometimes when you building a Buick you don't have a choice but to go with the only vendor that makes the product you need.

    Steve,
I bought 3 hoods from them a couple years ago. 1 flat 68-69 hood pretty good quality. 1 68-69 4.5" cowl hood scoop was starting to seperate during shipping, quality so so. 1 70-72 6.5'" cowl hood, scoop not centered on the hood and streched out so it has a 3/4 dip in the center of the scoop ,hood and scoop separated in corners pretty bad, quality bad. They could have done alot better with the quality and time spent measuring to find the center.
Also have 70 bumpers from them, no complains there.

    Man,
I was going to start bugging them about the 1 piece clip...Now a re-think is in order...I will say this,I have a set of 70 bumpers that came from VFN.Nice quality but no provisions to mount the stock front marker lights or taillights.I have to do that myself.I recently bought a 3 1/2 cowl hood from Ebay and it was mounted on a 71 Skylark.Lined up real nice and very nice quality.I may just have to get glass fenders instead of the clip that I really want.

Hey guys, thanks for the info.

I thought that I wouldn't hear of any "great quality" stories about them. I will be getting my fenders, hood w/scoop, bumpers and decklid from VFN. I've seen their parts many times and although not perfect, they seem to be head and shoulders above what I have sitting on my shop floor now. I am not one to bash a vender, especially one that supplies Buick parts of any kind. I will just avoid them in the future and give examples of my experience when asked.
As far as the front clip goes, I am going to do a little cutting and re-designing to create my own version. I'm really after the idea that I can remove the front end for service. I just plain feel to old to be bending over fenders while working on my racecar. Bad enough I am forced to do it on my street cars!!
