Anybody have a Q-jet unwarping tool that I can buy/borrow/rent?

    Thanks in advance,

I could... but I already have four cores, bought some guy's collection of q-jet parts off this board, got a Ruggles rebuild kit or two, as well as throttle shaft bushings and kit to put them in.

I just wanna straighten the cores I've got to make all this stuff work!

Boy it sure would be nice if someone had one to lend/rent. Tough pill to swallow if you're only doing a couple.

    Boy-and-howdy...

Anybody actually use one of these? I wonder if it's worth the $$

Cliff Ruggles Q-jet book says to simply grind down around the bolt holes on the concave side so that there is more crush.

Maybe I'll try this if no one has an un-warping tool handy to lend

    They work!
Do not tighten the bolts as noted in the instructions.Use half torque MAX on the small bolts and 3/4 on the large one.
Go about 1/4 torque and bake for 1 hour. tighten a little more and bake 1 more hour. When you finish, tighen as it cools. Repeat if needed.
    Caution:
Full torque on the small bolts will crush the area around it. Full torque on the big bolts may crack the rear secondary walls or center partition.

What do you do about the top of the bowl. It is not straight. When you put your straight top on the warped bowl, the top is warped again!!!

The Air horn is bolted and baked in the oven along with the bowl.

i had to replace the airhorn on a carb when i bought it the airhorn was broken. the only replacement air horn i had was warped bad.to flatten the air horn i put thin shim stock under the bolt holes. clamped it to a angle iron with a c-clamp. left it several days. it's good now.

    Good job man.
These things can be straightened. Give them time and be gentile however you do it. A hair dryer will speed up the action too. Or the oven at 200-250.

Guys, you can make your own unwarping tool in minutes from a big block of aluminum or steel. It needs to be thick, with two holes drilled in it to match the front bolts. A shim will be required between the bolt holes, about 1/8" thick is fine and taper or cut it down to go back between the boosters that stick up in the main casting.

Once bolted to the block, with the shim in place, gently tightened the bolts, a little at a time over a 2-3 day period. You can speed up the process with a propane torch, but time is better than a quick-fix.

If you want to have us do it for you, we turn them around in a week, and flatten the airhorn at the same time, call or email the shop for specifics.....Cliff
