Just got my Consumers Reports. Amazingly after all these years Nu Finish still tops them all for durability. Meguirs NXT shined a bit more more but didn't last.
I stopped using Nu Finish in the early 80's after my car started to get a white haze (probably used it to much - once a week rather than once year like they advertised)
Boy are you gonna get opinions! Everyone has thier favorites. If you want a good recommendation on wax amd polish, find a guy with a nice looking black car. If you want a killer shine, it will take about 12-15 hours. A good wash, clay bar the whole car, then hit it with a Porter Cable 7424 buffer, a Griot's Garage orange foam pad and machine polish. Then apply A good hand glaze like Gliptone. Then finish up with Meguiars #26 yellow wax. The paint will glow I guarantee it.
i like adams,i use it with the porter cable like jason said, the pics don`t lie, this paint is 25 years old
I would never hang my hat on Consumer Reports opinions. I used to work for a company that marketed private label or store brands food products. Basically, contract packers produced the products and then those products are labelled with different store brand private labels. Several years ago Consumer Reports did a report on frozen orange juice and several brands... including several store brands were included in their report. Even though those store brands all were the exact same juice for the exact same juice packer... Consumer Reports gave them different quality ratings! ou: I have never read that magazine again after that.
Your car looks slick!:TU: That finish doesnt come by accident. The paint on my black 71 is a little over 20 and people ask if I just painted it. You want a cheap detailer thats probably under everyone's kitchen sink? Pledge furniture polish sprayed on a slightly damp microfiber rag.
I know there are alot of opinions as to what works best. What amazes me and why I started the post was that this product still makes it into ratings. I have found and used some really good stuff over the years and to this day nothing really last that long on the "everyday" car, especially in the northern states. Obviously that is not an issue on our rides but interesting just the same! :Smarty: PS: Using the paste version of Nu Finish allegedly eliminates the white hazing and plastic discoloration common with the liquid version and last the longest. I have used it on my non Buick work car and it does last the longest of anything I've tried. The Buick always gets Meguiars NXT or Ultimate after cleaning.:beers2:
so your like me - good stuff goes on the Buick (and Olds), cheap goes on the daily driver - in my case the Wax setting at DIY car wash.
I never gave Turtle products a second look when buying car care items, but after winning a basket of their goods I have to say WOW. They made my black car sparkle and covered up those annoying swirl marks.
Buick 64203- what type of paint is on your buick? I'm working on a 69 Wildcat and undecided on what color and type of paint. Any recommendations?
My vote is for 3M line of products. They have an amazing line of products. I use foam pads on my stuff, they have some for compounding, some for finishing. They have compounds, and glazes for every situation. Yes, I have a black truck, and I can make that thing shine. I have people ask me what kind of "wax" I use. I tell them that I just push "wax" on my way through the car wash. LOL Actually, I have never taken any of my vehicles through a car wash in my life! Shine is all in the buffing wheel, and how much time you are willing to spend with it!
I think Nu-Finish has Kerosene in it I use it on the boat gets rid of the oxy in the fiberglass But on a Black car Dawn,Clay bar, Ziano 1-5-6 and spray shine
The shop used single stage (no clear) Sikkens back then. I hear that Spies Hecker is one of the best though. My car is basic black. I think Sikkens called it "Jet Black"
Thanks. It looks incredible. I'm assuming that's an acrylic or urethane enamel? would you paint a car with that at this point?
