Dan Stokes here. A bit about me and my Buick project - I'm an old timer, and I started off working as a detailer then a mechanic at Feigley Buick in Milford Michigan - home of the GM Proving Grounds. The dealership finally closed its doors a couple of years ago after being there since 1938. I had long ago left there and had gone to work for the Feds at the EPA in Ann Arbor, MI, doing vehicle emissions testing for 31 1/2 years. As a hobby, I have always messed with cars and do pretty much everything, including engine, paint and body, and even dabbled a LITTLE in upholstery. Jack of all trades, master of none. I've built a bunch of oddball combos, including a 215 aluminum Buick in a Vega and a 455 in an '80 Chevy pickup.

I retired 4 years ago and moved to Wilmington, NC, where I got interested in Land Speed Racing at the track in Maxton, NC. Now here's where I get interested in V8Buick. I've been running a '78 Camaro with a 250 inline six. I did a bunch of work to it over the winter and am still sorting out the tune. That's the engine I'll likely run next season. But I JUST picked up a 322 Nailhead for my next engine in the Camaro - please see my post in the nailhead section. I welcome all input, especially racing info on early nailheads.

    Hey Dan,

Just saw this post. I see you all the time over on the CarJunkie forum. I know nothing about the nailhead but hopefully you can find the info you need on this board. Welcome!

It'll run several different body classes within XO engine class. It's interesting - the rule book is fuzzy on whether you can run a V8 in these classes, but I've checked w/Keith Turk (the Race Director at Maxton), and the intent of the wording is to allow them. This engine class is for 1959 and older, less than 325 ci, no SBC's, no flathead Fords (they have a separate class). I don't recall if the small hemi's can run or not. The goal is to get you to run old straight 6s and 8s, odd V-engines, and even up to v12s if they fit the other requirements. Also, no foreign. They want to see Buicks, Olds, Packards, Studebakers, and the like. I can change classes for the body by installing and removing the aero package. Also, you can run "up" in class, so I could run in fuel or blown classes, whether or not I actually am using those items.
