Well, I kinda won... (long post)

I was out with my friends tonight on our way back to my house and my friends decide it would be a good idea for me to drive around town "flexing my muscle." So, I decide that we can go out for a little bit, maybe we can find an Acura or something and just mess around.
I don't know what the deal is, but this weekend, everyone has been wanting a piece of my car. I caught some revs from a lady in a rusted out 90ish Corsica, a little throttle exercise from a guy in a moving van, and at a light sitting five cars back from the light, I had a young lady in a massive dually drive somewhat aggressvely, throwing her weight in my direction. I ended up lining up with an '87 Audi 90, which I walked all over off the line, and then caught him again on the interstate where I blasted him from a 60 mph roll up to 90.
So we're out on Coliseum Boulevard (popular street), a very long two sometimes three lane road that runs all the way through town. We almost get a light with a body kitted Honda with some "killer" lights that I was looking forward to, but the yellow came up quickly and I couldn't get stopped quick enough. So while I'm sitting at the next light very far from the first car, this black '97 (I'm guessing) Trans Am 5-speed (correct?) pulls up on the left side of us and rolls forward a bit. At first I didn't think too much of it, except to say, "Hey, Trans Am." So the light turns green and we roll forward and all and he kinda gasses it a little bit but I wasn't too impressed at all. We roll on a little farther and we're pretty much side by side and I haven't actually acknowledged him at all, and I hear his car rev a bit, and OH MY GOD. This thing practically winds itself backwards and launches like nothing I have ever seen in my life!!! I looked at my friends and just kinda smiled. Now we've rolled in front of the Coliseum (the reason for the street name) and once I caught back up to him, I grabbed a hold of my trusty two speed and firmly held all 2.73 gears of it and throttled it pretty hard. It actually went pretty hard and I was... kinda looking forward to racing him. So we travelled on a bit farther and I follow him to make a left turn and I as afraid he was just going to disappear off into nowhere, but to my surprise, he made a U-turn. IT'S ON!!! So, with no one in front of us and no one behind us, we rolled slowly back through the way we had just came looking for a light. We drove all the way though the entire strip we had just travelled and then some we hadn't and we could not get a light, to which I abruptly made a U-turn of my own, with him quickly following. After another two miles or so of driving, I notice we have no one around us and we catch a light. I knew we were dead anyway, so I roll down my squeaky glass and there's two guys in the car.
Them: What year is that thing?
    Me:'68.
Them: I hope we aren't scarring you guys, we just wanna race.
Me: It's cool, I've been waiting for this this whole time.
Them: That's a cool car, it's coming a long nicely (or something like that).
Me: Thanks. You know you guys are gonna walk all over us.
    Them: You still wanna go?
    Me: Yeah, it's cool.
His Passenger: I have an '87 Regal at home.
Me: It's not turbo'd is it?
    Passenger: Yeah, it's a Grand National.:bglasses:
Me: Yeah, well, then what are you guys doing out in that thing?
    Them: (laughter)
    Me: You guys going?
    Them: Yeah.
Light turns green. MOTHER. This thing spins the tires for half a second and is frickin gone. At first I was thinking MAYBE I could chase him down...uhhh, no, I no longer think this. I actually pull up to him at the next light, both first in our lane.
    Them: You wanna go again?
    Me: Nah, I'm good.
Light turns green and we both roll away and all of a sudden he slams on it and I just watch his car launch and the wheels accelerate like nothing I have ever seen. At the next light, we are both far back in line and my friend in the back says, "Good thing you guys didn't go, there's a cop behind you." :eek2: I look out the rearview mirror and I just see him sitting there, and then I look out the passenger window and I see the rolling blue light on the black street. :jd: I'm think, you have to be kidding me. I kinda roll forward as the light turns green 'cuz I couldn't go anywhere else anyways, and then I see the cop pull up alongside of the Trans Am, but I couldn't tell if he was gonna get us both or not, so I slowly drive away, as my heart nearly pops out of my chest. I see the Trans and the cop pull into the mall parking lot, and all three of us felt bad, so we decided we'd go up to the light and eventually go into the mall and try to find the Pontiac. I had meant to tell the GN guy about the board and I was gonna offer the driver ten bucks to pay for his ticket, but we never could find either the cop or the two guys. Feeling overwhelmed and very humble, we returned home.
Sorry for the long post, but I love reading stories, especially kill stories. I figured many of you may be tired of the constant "No rice in town can touch my car" stories. I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to go save up for my own Trans Am now.

 Me thinks you picked on your first 10-second sleeper (maybe low 11's)!! Prolly ATI Procharge'd with some gears, suspension work and some sticky radials! NOT your 'average' :error: TA, I'm SURE!

Trans-ams are pretty cool, but i'd want a GN or a GNX than a trans-am. Good story though. I've never street raced a turbo trans-am, but rob(friend) raced one in his GS and he beat it badly, it was on main-street when we were heading towards hamilton,Ill. This white turbo trans-am pulled up to us and the trans-am guy reved his engine and rob threw a few back and when the light turned green, the T-transam took off the same time we did, stayed up with us untill rob Speed-shifted it into second, then we pulled away a little, then slamed it into third, then we pulled to far ahead of him to catch up to us, then shifted into 4th and rob's speedo said 117 untill he slowed down before we got to town, and then we turned right when we first entered hamilton and we didn't ever see him again. We beat him in Rob's GS 350:jd: :eek2: It's not stock either, though.

    Very good story indeed:TU:

Jeff- Thank you, I feel a little better now. It was insane how quick this guy was, and especially how pokey I was, but your comments have calmed me a little bit. My Lady Killer is definitely no "Street Killer," but damn, I am still amazed.

LOL, you have no idea how true that is Jeff, you have no idea. It's just so frustrating, that feeling of having your foot on the floor and watching that other car just pull away and it's like "Why am I not going that fast?" You are so correct with that one, Jeff.

Oh contraire! I believe I just might!!.................

Right after I built my 'first' 455 together back in 93 (stock IRON-engine rebuild), I got suckered into racing a 88-92 (?) 'Stang. I thought my 455 was very solid and pretty fast, until I raced this guy from outta town in his PAXTON SUPERCHARGED, STROKED Mustang w/ cheater slicks. Yep, he pulled away pretty hard.:af: I was running 13.40's @ 100 at the time. He whipped all of my friends that night.:ball:

Of course that changed ALL of my plans, and then I BUILT my car for SPEED from then on! Never saw him again tho......:blast:

Cody, if the owner of that engine wanted to race, i think he'd do a good job of doing so himself, so if you wanna challenge any more people, challenge them in YOUR car with YOUR engine and YOU driving, good idea no?

Those things are fast(Camaro/Firebird) I just got to drive one(actually a camaro) a few days ago, the owner had done some stuff to it(had about 400H.P.) it was a expirience. It was my first time driving a car with that much H.P.( i'm 16) and it was in the rain:Brow:

Yeah there really are some fast cars out there on the streets that can take you by surprise if you're not ready. I usually have no problems beating Mustangs and Camaro's because most of them will be stock or have a couple bolt-ons. I had a race about a year ago in my Buick with a 88-93 Mustang GT on a dead highway late at night. I had a lady friend in the car with me coming back from the movies and it looked like just another typical Mustang with some funky paintjob, but when we got side to side and downshifted/nailed it he walked away pretty hard after the initial lunge. Took it up to ~120 and just couldn't catch up. We went at it a few times and he'd get about 5 carlengths right away and pulling each run. I wanted to stop and talk to him, but it was freezing both outside and in, as the heater wasn't working that night so I kept going to get my date home after he turned off. It had to be a 11 second 'Stang the way it walked away. The good thing was that I lost no respect from my date, my car was the fastest thing she had ever been in and that Mustang had to have a lot of work to be able to go like it did, plus she liked my car better anyway what with the queen-size back area......anyway point is, watch out and be well prepared for the other "fast cars" that are out there looking for a good race, your girlfriend might not be as cool with you losing!

Well, drop a turbo charger off a GN in my car and there rear-end and i wouldn't be afraid of no trans-am, thank you very much for pointing that out.

I got spanked hard in my 85 vette 4 -3 this summer I thought me and my buddy rebuilt it to run. Did not know the limit of the heads. Well pulled up next to a 2000 something Mustang Cobra and I thought I was standing still. At the light I asked him what he had. He told me stock. Yea right. He parked it and I stopped and looked in 2 bottles of NOS proudly displayed next to the speakers that used to be the back seat. You never know.:(
What are the chances it will be on the road 35 years from now like my GS or even 18 years like my Vette?

not quite so easy.. if thats all you did youd have a little more to fear than a transam... like blowing yourself up.. and ill tell you one thing, you'd fear our trans am.. just cant wait til it gets here

Oh yeah, and another thing, It sounds like jacob didn't try very hard to beat the trans-am either. Flooring the accellerator is not easy on your car. And besides that, the trans-am had a turbo on it, no wonder it was fast on take off:rolleyes: If it didnt have that turbo on it, then what? I would like to see a trans-am try to go "Super" fast. Every-body has opinions, and there's facts, and i'll tell you some, if a trans-am turbo were to race a 455 buick, i doubt the turbo would stay ahead very long, and actually, it wouldn't. Another thing to remember is, that TTA was racing a heavier car than it. If it were to pick on something it's own stance, it wouldn't be very good. Ha. So there ya have it. The 455 isnt the only buick big-block out there either, so this is just small talk.

Yea I dont know about the rest of you but I can't much say i care to race the TA's and Camaro's on the Highway I mean my car weights like 3800lbs and im runnin over 110 mph my car begins to float very smooth ride but one heavy cross wind and im goin smack into the gaurd rail or worse I mean those cars are built for high end performance, and they are much more aerodynamic
but hey Big blocks arent really made for HP they are mainly torque monsters I mean stock 360hp and 510 ftlbs thats pretty sweet. Anyway im sure almost all of us have lost one or two races that just motivates us to make our beasts alittle faster alittle quicker and alittle stronger that and it shows us that we are not the fastest kids on the block but hey its all in good fun.

ohh and Cody before you say Jacob didnt try hard enough to win I wanna see you take your 1976 buick century landau two-door coupe and go toe to toe with a moderatly built trans am or hell a bone stock TA better yet get Rob and his godlike GS350 and i'll race him in my 425 nailhead 66 Riviera which is bone stock or my GS455 not even a stage 1 also bone stock (with the exception of 3:73 gears in the rear)
